The annual change in GDP topped 15% in only five years since 1929 -- four times under FDR and once under Truman.
Conservatives at the time, and since, denounced those presidents for practicing "socialism," which Trump claims is the top problem constricting the economy today.
I think that guy might benefit from some talk therapy.

She had an incredible career AND she sang backup for just about everyone including Graham Nash, Steven stills, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles, Carly Simon, Roger Waters and many others...
And she was married to Kris Kristofferson!! π€© I mean... C'mon!
What an absolute banger from Graham Nash's debut album in 1971 Songs for Beginners. "Better Days" has backing lyrics by Rita Coolidge and Neil Young play the piano. Such a GOOD song.

Detail of the map, listing fares between locations. 03.02.2026 17:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Forced to fight street by street and occasionally room by room, Lannes ordered engineers to systematically destroy buildings to secure his rear. He thought it was especially dishonorable to have to fight civilians. When the Spanish surrendered his terms were generous under the circumstances.
02.02.2026 17:55 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Saragossa was rough on all the French generals/marshals, particularly Junot who Lannes replaced. (Not as rough as the population who suffered horribly. Perhaps as many as 50,000 Spanish soldiers and civilians died). π
Lannes, no stranger to sieges, did NOT enjoy his experience at Saragossa.
Well circulated is Napoleon tolerating Lannes' use of "tu" instead of the more formal "vous." They had a special bond.
I do wonder how tight that bond would have remained in 1812, 1813, etc. I'm not suggesting Lannes wouldn't have been anything but loyal, but he wasn't afraid to speak his mind.
Ha! You will find no better cheerleader for Lannes than Margaret Chrisawn. We went to grad school together and we all read several drafts of her book. You should enjoy it if you're not already into it. She's a good writer on top of being a thorough historian.
02.02.2026 15:35 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Napoleon says a lot of things. Lannes was a dear friend of the emperor's. For my part, Napoleon, on balance, had a positive assessment of Lannes. Besides, what Napoleon said of Lannes could be said of him. π I suspect he admired Lannes for that.

02.02.2026 12:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Honestly, I haven't heard this... I assume it comes from Napoleon's musings to Las Casas on St. Helena? I know it wasn't Junot. π

Ha! I often play it on steam when I'm alone. It's an engine building game. I've learned a ton about birds through playing that game. There are lots of videos about it on YouTube about how to play and get into it. When I get together with my ex and her husband and our kids we play it often. π
