PS. What the hell is an β€˜insurance based healthcare system’ if it’s not privatised?

Farage is frequently accused of wanting to privatise the NHS because he DOES want to privatise the way we pay for healthcare

No insurance - no problem?
Under a ReformUK government? Give me a break #bbcaq

No taxes for fear people won’t pay them or worse, leave the country, has been the clarion call of the neoliberal Right for decades.

… & it’s utter horseshit!!

Majority of wealthy are perfectly happy to contribute more. What we all want is an economy & a state that works #bbcaq

All very well believing a ceasefire would reward Hamas.

But Hamas aren’t suffering Oakeshott. It’s innocent Palestinians who are suffering … & that’s entirely Israel’s responsibility #bbcaq

Israel’s attitude is evidently to wash its hands of a devastated Gaza.

To not accept it as part of a wider independent Palestinian state is inexplicable #wato

And in what we're going to pretend is a carefully coordinated strategy, it's on BBC2 this Sunday (except Wales). Enjoy your weekend (except in Wales).

No I have seen the stat, from 2019. Quick search for it now & you just get comparisons with native workers

Like I say we have better things to do. & Coming back with β€˜I made it up’ & β€˜never rejoin the corrupt EU’ suggests I’d have been better off arguing with the guide dog if you get my drift. Bye

How Denmark's left (not the far right) got tough on immigration Denmark has come under international attention for its tough approach. And its Social Democrat prime minister is leading the charge

What about the left wing?

Why don't win a lot of attention (and votes) here and do something about it?

Like Denmarks left wing government

Do you think Denmark is a terrible country and Danes are all racist?

Yep - & love this line from the story: critics see [Frederiksen's] 'rightwards swing' as a cynical ploy to get into, and then stay in, power.’

I don’t think we disagree that immigration is a big issue. We just disagree on why.

We both have better things to be doing right now, no?

Far easier for politicians responsible for austerity to come on the BBC #r4today , #wato , & the rest, & blame immigrants, & β€˜their woke Lefty lawyers’ etc, rather than acknowledge the damage their relentless cuts to public spending has caused our country.

07.08.2025 09:58 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Important to recognise austerity has been instrumental to the immigration debate:

Not only has HO staff cuts increased delays, but cuts across public services has made people worse off.

The same politicians have capitalised on this, not by demanding better services, but by blaming immigrants …

07.08.2025 09:55 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

UK returned far greater proportion of failed applicants before the 2008 GEC.

Since 2010, the Tories who made immigration a key campaign issue, presided over an exponential rise in immigration numbers, delays to processing asylum applications, & therefore the cost of housing claimants.

07.08.2025 09:51 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Immigration was central to the anti EU campaign.

Leaving the EU hasn’t made the slightest difference to tackling migration. It has just altered the demographic of the average migrant worker here (with fewer, better skilled EU workers).

Nobody saying politicians should ignore voters. Certainly not saying people smuggling isn’t a serious problem: we want MPs to tackle it

But by definition a distraction isn’t addressing the problem. The Right wing win a lot of attention & votes peddling the issue, but they aren’t solving anything.

07.08.2025 09:48 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

… These aren’t solutions. They are agendas used to get voters to accept change that is most likely detrimental to a majority of voters.

Being upset about something doesn’t mean it’s β€˜right’, right? #r4today

07.08.2025 07:58 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, because it’s the #1 issue voters are presented with

For most if the century we’ve been told foreigners are a threat: terrorists; thieves; sex offenders; job takers; housing & benefits scroungers

& politicians in UK have sold leaving EU, the ECHR, eroding civil liberties as solution #r4today

07.08.2025 07:55 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

I say the politicians are distracted by immigration; by Brexit, etc

Of course it’s the politicians using these distractions to deflect attention away from the inevitable poverty caused by their bloody cuts.

No surprise the boats is ALL team Badenoch can talk about at the moment #r4today

Gordon Brown of course pilloried in the press for being caught calling a bigoted woman β€œa bigoted women” in an open mic moment during the 2010 election

Not the only reason we ended up with Cameron running the country [into the buffers], but it didn’t help.

β€˜Bloody immigrants’!!! #r4today

Good #r4today interview with former PM Gordon Brown on the shocking growth of children living in unbearable poverty in the UK

Been growing crisis for decades, but really accelerated under austerity & tax cuts from politicians who spend way too much time distracted by immigration & Leaving the EU

β€˜Sadly’ missed the #r4today Philp interview (makes it sound like a weekly fixture)

But can I assume Webb really took Philp to task over how 14years of austerity cuts to HO immigration services has managed to increased the cost to the UK taxpayer??

Webb must’ve been beside himself!
