Currently using Apple Music Classical but considering a switch to Qobuz.
Lack of proper metadata search (composer, performer, catalogue no.) feels like a major drawback for classical.
Anyone using Qobuz or (Presto Music Streaming) for classical? Curious to hear your experiences.

Emmanuel Chabrier was born on this day in 1841, which has prompted me to get round to listening to this album of his music conducted by Neeme Jรคrvi. (And an excellent recording it is.)

If someone says it's raining and another person says it's dry it's not your job to quote them both your job is to look at the fucking window and find out which is true.
Can you please take this message back to your "news org" before it becomes a full blown propaganda outlet? Thanks.

What, in your opinion, is the best #audiophile recording of a #Wagner #opera from the last 15 years? Iโm specifically looking for recent recordings, not reissues of the same old historically acclaimed performances. #classicalmusic

For those who see Liszt merely as a #virtuoso, Die Ideale offers another perspective: the composer-philosopher, unafraid to push boundaries and explore deep ideas. This masterpiece is a testament to his creativity and a reminder of the depth we often overlook in his ลuvre.
25.11.2024 08:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0
Many reduce analysis of Liszt's works to simply counting notes. Imagine doing the same for #Tchaikovsky, #Mozart, #Prokofiev or #Ligeti โ just noting "too many notes." The amateur nature of such criticism would be clear. With Liszt, we miss his profound depths when reduced to surface-level analysis.

Liszt is, of course, no unknown name. Yet in a way, he still is. Only a portion of his vast, always innovative ลuvre is often performed. Mostly, it's works that fall short of his true brilliance. Boundless virtuosity resonates more with many than his deep philosophical exploration.
25.11.2024 08:56 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
Die Ideale embodies Lisztโs characteristic urge to innovate, redefining musical form with evolving themes that reflect human aspirations. Inspired by #Schillerโs poetry, each motif transforms to depict struggle and triumph, challenging listeners to strive for higher ideals.

Album cover for 'Liszt: Symphonic Poems Vol. 4' by Chandos. Features a black-and-white image of conductor Gianandrea Noseda conducting, set against a deep purple background. The album includes works 'Hungaria,' 'Hamlet,' 'Hunnenschlacht,' and 'Die Ideale,' performed by the BBC Philharmonic.
Franz #Liszt, one of the greatest innovators of the 19th century, essentially created the #symphonic poem genre. These works weave philosophy into music, creating rich stories through orchestral sound. Die Ideale is a shining example, yet itโs less appreciated than Les Prรฉludes. #classicalmusic

The Prison blends lush harmonies with introspection. Perfect for fans of late Romantic drama! Once neglected, The Prison gained attention with a stunning 2020 recording by the BBC Symphony Orchestra (Chandos).

Based on Henry Bennet Brewsterโs The Prison: A Dialogue, Smythโs oratorio divides into Close on Freedom and The Deliverance. The baritone represents the Prisoner; the soprano, his Soul, guiding him to transcendence. A philosophical masterpiece!

Album cover of The Prison by Dame Ethel Smyth, released by Chandos. The artwork features a sepia-toned profile of Ethel Smyth against a textured background. Performers listed include Sarah Brailey (soprano), Dashon Burton (bass-baritone), and James Blachly conducting the Experiential Orchestra and Chorus.
Ethel Smythโs The Prison (1930) is a profound oratorio for soprano, baritone, choir, and orchestra. It explores the inner dialogue of a dying prisoner as he seeks freedom and spiritual peace. A hidden gem of late Romanticism.

Who was she? A French organist, pianist, composer, and music critic. Known for her "Contes fantastiques" piano pieces and as the first woman to found and edit a music journal in Paris. She wrote sometimes under "Richard Sincรจre" and made her mark despite her untimely death from cholera at 30.

An album cover featuring an illustration of a woman with dark, straight hair and a white collar, wearing a purple costume. On the left, the text reads: "JULIETTE DILLON, Contes fantastiques de Hoffmann, Les maรฎtres chanteurs." At the bottom, it says "Jean-Frรฉdรฉric Neuburger" and the "La Boรฎte ร Pรฉpites" logo with the text "Recording Women Composers."
It's incomprehensible that this composer has been ignored for so long. Juliette Dilon's Contes fantastiques de Hoffmann is a genius suite filled with poetic depth, thundering virtuosity and musical imagery. One of the sections is fantastically performed by Neuburger. @womencomposers @classicalmusic
