I knew Jonathan since the late 60s. No finer filmmaker, no better friend.

His cancer battle was finally lost Friday morning. His many friends and colleagues will remember him fondly.

Jonathan Kaplan's TRUCK TURNER was top-shelf blaxploitation, and his juvenile delinquency drama OVER THE EDGE was tough, compassionate and tragic - a classic of the form. He became a studio hired hand later on, but he had the magic. RIP.
