Microsoft says it’s not them, and their metrics aren’t showing any abnormal increases in hardware failures.

Phison, a component manufacturer commonly used in many of the drives that are failing, say they can’t repro any issue.

Ahh yep, that was Aug 20.. I don’t see any further press releases, just articles from other vendors claiming Phison have not been able to repro since.

Probably not easy to definitively state the absence of any issue if repro remains elusive.. I guess :)

I personally feel - based off EFF / Electronic Frontiers Australia - that it was rushed as a smokescreen for pushing digital ID to access social media on everyone, and eliminate anonymity. It opens the door to 'we all have to prove we're not 16.' I hope I'm wrong!!
