A better author photo of Patrick Ness, looking like a person and not an egg with a record.
THIS is the one I prefer (by @thatstephendaly.bsky.social ). Doesnβt even look like the same person, aside from the blue polo, which I have to wear as part of my cult.

βCatastrophic declineβ in Black representation in childrenβs books
A report by charity Inclusive Books for Children found that of the 2,721 books surveyed, only 51 featured a Black main character, down by 21.5% since 2023
One of the things about this study is that a lot of baby and toddler books are written in house, by editors. So the study reveals the whiteness of editorial in kidlit even if not explicitly. But, big picture, this trend is unacceptable. I remember so many promises www.theguardian.com/books/2025/o...

We demand that the UK Government immediately commits to not introducing a digital ID cards. There are reports that this is being looked at.
Real good news/bad news thing for Starmer.
Good news: he got people to sign up for signing at a similar pace to Your Party's mailing list.
Bad news: It's opposition to his ID cards idea.

Cis 'allies' be like: Why are trans people weird about the UK's ID proposals?
Us: They will force out us
'Allies': I'm sure that won't happen
Us: They have literally involved transphobe groups in the design stage. It will happen from day 1.
'Allies': You're just hysterical. Won't happen.

Hi LGBT+ Labour, thanks for the email about all your fabulous conference events, but my copy seems to be missing the meeting about tackling the overwhelming wave of transphobia that has engulfed Labour policy in the last two years and has left trans people across the UK living in fear. Typo?

βItβs dying in front of our eyesβ: how the UKβs largest lake became an ecological disaster
Signs tout a natural paradise, but pollution from over-farming has left Northern Irelandβs Lough Neagh choked by toxic algae
"Sinn FΓ©in and the DUP have stalled the nutrients action programme over fears of a farmer backlash."
The *only* thing they'll unite on: ensuring the largest lake ecosystem in Ireland or Britain, Lough Neagh, continues to die of pollution.
What a f**king disgrace.
