S5E3 - Irish Roots and Radical Hope with ManchΓ‘n Magan and Shirley Anne McMillan | The Seed
I featured on this podcast, the Seed, with the wonderful ManchΓ‘n Magan earlier this year. I always hoped I'd meet him in real life and we could talk about it, but it was not to be. Please do listen, even to the first half which is ManchΓ‘n's bit. It's just beautiful. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw7U...

They might want to look into the campaign in the south for church and state separation in education. I am not sure they'd be huge fans...

Major issues with the availability and reliability of our transport service as well. I live an hour away from Belfast and if I wanted to get a bus it would literally take 2.5 hours, IF everything runs on time.

JK be like 'I absolutely respect her right to not be a transphobe, but at the same time she totally betrayed me by publicly saying she wasn't a transphobe.'

She also appears to think that not having been a billionaire for her whole entire life gives her the right to speak for all women on issues of safety. Some of us are still in the 'public toilets' phase of life and guess what, she's not making me feel any safer at all. In fact, quite the opposite.

It was our favourite school assembly song when I was a kid. Absolute belter. We had that pure evangelical Protestant guilt so everyone knew the craic. Buck up, kids, it could be worse!

Did you ever read that news story about the group of kids who this really happened to and instead of bullying each other they all rallied together and made a brilliant wee community?

The word "love" in particular seems ever more abused, but I think we should also not let "hate" become synonymous with "resistance", and that ol' switcheroo has been brewing for quite some time. Anyway, be careful with MLK, that's all I'm saying.

We're quoting MLK again: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." I think it's time we talked about definitions of 'love' and 'hate' though.

Disgusting comments from Michael Deane, local chef & owner of various restaurants (Deanes, Meatlocker, beanes @ Queens)
βDine out tonight support your local restaurant who stay loyal to its people and its produce Hospitality Ulster
Britain has become addicted to the app economy. Tap a button, and dinner, groceries, or a ride home magically appear. But here's the uncomfortable truth nobody wants to say out loud: when you order Deliveroo, Just Eat, or Uber, you're not just ordering food or transport you're effectively inviting a stranger, often an undocumented one right to your front door.
Think about it. Once upon a time, the milkman left a couple of bottles on your doorstep. You knew his name, his family, his round. Now, an anonymous Deliveroo rider pulls up outside your house, logs your exact location, and disappears into the night with your data. Who are they? Where did they come from? What checks were done? You don't know. And you're not supposed to ask.β
Is business that bad Michael? Disgraceful

I was at the Trans Day of Remembrance service that Mike showed up to, many years ago. Clearly it didn't make much of an impression. It did on me. I remember how grateful people were that he had been there, how much hope it gave them. I wonder how they're feeling today. I wonder if he cares.

Like, vote for the least worst guys (there still are some) but don't put 100% of your hope in democratic politics. It's always going to have to play a game which centres the majority. It's necessary to the systems we have, but we can also play outside those systems to an extent.

Looks like Your Party have a tiny window of opportunity to decide where they stand on trans issues π. This reminds me of NI21. Can I suggest anarchy as an alternative? I don't mean in a Russell Brand way. More in a 'Let's not totally despair and remember that we can do lots of things ourselves' way.
