Empty cubicles in the Cascade PBS newsroom

Crosscut is dead. Long live Crosscut. Today’s the official last day for me and my Cascade PBS newsroom colleagues. We did good work over the decades and it is supremely sad to see it shut down.

He’s illegally refusing to pay food stamp benefits…

The Oversight Committee subpoenaed the DOJ for the Epstein files. They now have 2 weeks to release the files to the committee.

It’s time to find out who’s been protected, who thought they were above the law, and who’s been hiding behind power.

Catie Malik
Kirkland City Council, Position 3:

We do not need any new taxes. We need to be more responsible with our current tax revenue. Before funding new programs we need to look at expected outcomes and be able to measure success. If the new programs are not meeting the metric for success, we would need a time frame to make adjustments to meet the metric and after that, if it is not working and our money would be better spent elsewhere. I would also look at what we are currently spending money on and get a definition of success for those programs as well. If they are not delivering as expected, I would cut those programs as well.

We need to ensure we have hired enough Fire Fighters and Police Officers based on national benchmarks. We also need to prosecute crime. We have all seen if there is not a deterrent crime rates go up. As a healthcare administrator, I would look at other cities best practices to find proven methods of public safety to utilize in our city as well.

Its not ok. It is non of my business what you chose to identify, but biological males should not compete against females in sports. It is unethical. Furthermore, giving them access to the girls restrooms and locker rooms does not leave our young women feeling safe and secure. We can find alternatives for those males who identify as females to have a safe environment for them that does not compromise the safety and security of the females.

Catie Malik is once again King GOP's preferred candidate.

She also answered their candidate questionnaire...with a very transphobic answer regarding trans girls in sports, whom Catie calls: "males who identify as females".

The answer was more surprising than I anticipated. Simply put, he has more than doubled his net worth in 4 months.

There is one place, however, where Musk, with the help of his minions, achieved his goals. He did indeed shred U.S.A.I.D. Though a rump operation is now operating inside the State Department, the administration says that it has terminated more than 80 percent of U.S.A.I.D. grants. Brooke Nichols, an associate professor of global health at Boston University, has estimated that these cuts have already resulted in about 300,000 deaths, most of them of children, and will most likely lead to significantly more by the end of the year. That is what Musk’s foray into politics accomplished.

Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty.

You lose again Donnie.

A federal judge ruled on May 1, 2025, that the Trump administration's invocation of the Alien Enemies Act (AEA) of 1798 to remove alleged members of a Venezuelan gang from the country is unlawful.

"The President cannot summarily declare that a foreign nation or government has threatened or perpetrated an invasion or predatory incursion of the United States, followed by the identification of the alien enemies subject to detention or removal.

"The Proclamation makes no reference to and in no manner suggests that a threat exists of an organized, armed group of individuals entering the United States at the direction of Venezuela to conquer the country or assume control over a portion of the nation. Thus, the Proclamation's language cannot be read as describing conduct that falls within the meaning of 'invasion' for purposes of the AEA.

"Allowing the President to unilaterally define the conditions when he may invoke the AEA, and then summarily declare that those conditions exist, would remove all limitations to the Executive Branch's authority under the AEA, and would strip the courts of their traditional role of interpreting Congressional statutes to determine whether a government official has exceeded the statute's scope. The law does not support such a position."
