A yellow black plastic bound recipe book. The cover says choice hotels international with a drawing of a dinosaur combine with a suitcase. Underneath the dinosaur it says Choiceasaurus, Dino-mite recipes, followed by our commitment… Your choice 1993
A carrot cake recipe from the book, with notes from the baker. The recipe is one and 1/2 cups of flour, one cup of sugar, half a teaspoon of salt, 2/3 cup of salad oil, 1 teaspoon of soda, two eggs, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, one cup of shredded carrots, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, half a cup of crushed pineapple with syrup. Mix until moistened about two minutes and pour in a 9 x 9” pan. This can be doubled for a larger cake. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
Every baker should have a book like this floating around the kitchen. Full of recipes you would take to that high school potluck in 1995. My favorite carrot cake recipe. #baking

Whiskers are very energetically favorable, with near ideal lattice structures. Given the small surface regimes, it doesn’t surprise me that they form, particularly if the source substrate is strained, like, from cold soldering.
Not really my field anymore, though 😉

America Has Pulled Off the Impossible. It Made Getting a Passport Simple.
Washington is not exactly known for tech innovation. So how did a team of bureaucrats put their stamp on a new program for renewing passports online?
I’m thrilled to see State in the spotlight for this achievement. Also surprised to see no mention of the U.S. Digital Service — a key partner in the approach that @bzcohen.bsky.social celebrates.

Nice essay. But, for instance, Stockton Rush, builder of the imploding OceanGate submersible, was also highly “agentic”. As a stand-alone trait, it really should be balanced within a moral and ethical framework.
