Threads in particular is full of people acting like this is career ending for Talarico, completely ignoring this part of the allegation which totally discredits it (the complete lack of other evidence notwithstanding)

FCC gets thousands of complaints over Blue Alert in Texas shooting
The Blue Alert blared through cell phones and rattled devices, startling Texans with an unplanned awakening at 5 a.m.
Texas really said we’re going to send you alerts over the same channel we use for flood evacuations and tornado warnings every time a policeman is sad and so everyone stopped listening to them

Meteorologists Say the National Weather Service Did Its Job in Texas
DOGE cut hundreds of jobs at the NWS, but experts who spoke to WIRED say the agency accurately predicted the flood risk in Texas.
NEW: in the wake of devastating floods in tx, some officials say NWS forecasts weren't sufficient enough to warn them, while others are warning that DOGE cuts may have made predictions less accurate.
meteorologists told me: NWS did a solid job with the forecasts around this storm

NWS did their job, but it’s seeming like Kerr County officials didn’t and are trying to shift blame.

There’s absolutely no winning with people whose critical thinking skills have collapsed this profoundly. Even beyond being immoral and evil, it’s impressive that they don’t realize that non-conservatives who “choose to live in a red state” are some of the people who can prevent this in the future

the Uvalde example to me is more a test run of how to brutally break a society to the point where they're too tired to fight back than an example of people voting themselves into oppression (though there's certainly an element of that). if you disempower people for generations that's what happens
05.07.2025 18:04 — 👍 7 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0
I mean sure, but people are already disenfranchised and used to being treated horribly by the government. Not an excuse but there hasn't been a meaningful challenge to republican hegemony in a generation and no meaningful efforts by TX dems to do so in rural areas with the exception of beto

correct, I think people were demoralized after cops beat up parents trying to enter the building during the shooting, that incident, and pete arredondo not facing any consequences and saying he would allow an independent investigation only if people "stopped grieving"

There were 4.8 million Kamala voters in Texas…which is the same as Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire combined!! And yet we apparently deserve to lose children in floods because of political disagreements with our neighbors. Truly incredible thinking here

This is sick, fascist thinking. As many people voted for Kamala in Texas as did in every New England state combined. The floods happened in an area where deep blue Austin and San Antonio parents send kids for summer camp. But apparently we deserve it because we happen to have conservative neighbors!

I’m in Texas and woke up to texts about dozens of kids missing in Hill Country. Opened Bluesky, saw the replies to this and wanted to throw up. We are irreparably doomed as a society if “liberals” are cheering on the deaths of kids because they’re in a red state bsky.app/profile/cnn....

Insane to see “liberals” bragging about how they have no sympathy for children dead in a flood because they had the misfortune of being born in a red state. Truly evil sick person behavior

About 20 people at Texas summer camp missing as devastating floods slam hill country, officials say
About 20 people at Camp Mystic are not accounted for, Acting Gov. Dan Patrick said in a news conference on Friday.
less than two weeks ago, 14 people in San Antonio were killed in flash flooding.
last night, just an hour away, as many as 20 people went missing as flash flooding struck again. at a summer camp for young kids.
these aren’t natural disasters—it is the fossil fuel industry’s fault.
