FALCO TINNUNCULUS, Kestrel looking down on its world. Wingspan 65-80cm. I think this is male, blue grey head and dark spotted light brown chest. At least THIS shot is reasonably clear!
CARDUELIS SPINUS. Small winter visitor. Male is yellow & green with black forehead. Yellow chest visible in this very distant shot.
Apologies for a rubbish shot with wings wide spread. Black forehead visible with yellow stripes to the sides
Head down feeding and so not visible but the pale abdomen and dark & yellow side stripes above the abdomen can be seen.

My Canadian born Chihuahua loved winter. Refused to wear a sweater when he came to England, obviously not cold enough. He relented when he was about 17 and reluctantly wore his sweaters.

Thank you. We have a perfectly good and extremely efficient post office about 5 yards away from the post box which has been wrapped in black plastic for weeks...I'm sure it makes sense to someone somewhere to have an auto letter box outside the PO!

Walked past a "manicured lawn and grass verge" today both in a soggy muddy mess because they'd been cut. We've only had enough rain recently for the River Ouse to flood which makes me think grass cutting is not the best idea...

31 yrs ago the masses of empty snail shells on the path at the side of the house was a major decider. Now occasionally I'll see a Blackbird eating a garden slug, almost forgotten what Thrushes look like. Need I say more???

Not only can they walk upside down, they have the habit of watching us set focus and then rapidly disappear behind the tree. You got some lovely shots, obviously a tame Tree Mouse!

Saved by Stoppard
Sir, In 1993 my wife and I went to see the first production of Arcadia by Tom Stoppard (obituary, Dec I), and in the interval I experienced a Damascene conversion. As a clinical scientist I was trying to understand the enigma of the behaviour of breast cancer, the assumption being that it grew in a linear trajectory spitting off metastases on its way. In the first act of Arcadia, Thomasina asks her tutor, Septimus: "If there is an equation for a curve like a bell, there must be an equation for one like a bluebell, and if a bluebell, why not a rose?" With that Stoppard explains chaos theory, which better explains the behaviour of breast cancer. At the point of diagnosis, the cancer must have already scattered cancer cells into the circulation that nest latent in distant organs. The consequence of that hypothesis was the birth of "adjuvant systemic chemotherapy",
", and rapidly
we saw a striking fall of the curve that illustrated patients' survival.
Stoppard never learnt how many lives he saved by writing Arcadia.

Thank you for rescuing these precious creatures, but they should never have been left in danger. Perhaps the people who left these holes uncovered could spend a little time in the mud baths???????

Before Rosa Parks, and far less well known, was a teenage girl, pregnant but not married, called Claudette Colvin. Rosa Rarks was awarded the highest civilian honour by President Clinton in 1999.

Rosa Parksβ story didnβt end in Montgomery. These students are proof of that.
The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation aims to tell the story of Parks' life beyond the bus while helping Michigan students devoted to service and social change.
Seventy years have passed since Rosa Parks refused to surrender her seat on a Montgomery bus, and her legacy is often shrunk into that single moment.
Detroit, the city where she chose to continue her life, insists on remembering her differently.
