This is vitally important considering the Amazon is responsible for approximately 20% of the world's total freshwater - as the largest watershed in the world - and also accounts for around 16% of the oxygen produced on land.

These decisions affect all life on earth. #COP30 #deforestation #farming

Clearly, the risks of climate change at ~3C are still terribly high & catastrophic for many, particularly with #tippingpoints in the climate, but I think the point here is that we should recognise the progress that has been made globally so far in managing these risks, such as coal phase-out #hope

Important point by @susannahfisher.bsky.social in her new book:

Impacts of degraded pollination ecosystem services on global food security and nutrition Nutrient resource loss in human food due to an ecological shock in terms of the depletion of insect pollination services may become a global concern. โ€ฆ

One study found "the average global crop price will increase by about 187% if pollinators go extinct"

Could biodiversity loss already be an unseen contributor to the global #costofliving crisis?

The people who produce this Mauna Loa atmospheric COโ‚‚ record have a lab in Hilo, Hawaiสปi, about 50 miles (80 km) from the observatory. By closing the lab, it'll be really difficult to maintain the COโ‚‚ observations.
