This game is underrated. I feel like a lot of reviewers rightfully complained about the microtransactions, but in doing so overlooked the fact that the actual game was fantastic. I feel like it should be re-examined now that the dust has settled

PS2 used a different engine, with some pros and cons. You noticed the simplified level geometry but PS2 technically had better lighting and arguably better character models. Cons: the draw distance was more restricted, lower textures too
Bigger drawback is arguably no longtail of good PC only mods

I see you did QA, I be this was a challenging project from that perspective. Looks like I've played a lot of your work, like Thief, Kain and some lesser known things like Snowblind, Revenant.
DE is my fav game of all time (and Thief is up there too) so thank you!

I hope the younger crowd discovering this so much later understands how experimental and unorthodox of a game this was for the time when it landed. The darling of the year was the now-largely-forgotten Daikatana, whilst ion storm quietly cooked. DE deserves all the recognition.
