I had thought most of my naive idealism had been stomped out of me by now, but it’s amazing to me that this level of public animosity could be directed by Democratic leadership toward a sweet and personable young candidate of their own party seemingly exclusively because of his background.

Dick Cheney was a cruel bureaucrat who made corrupt institutions more abusive. Officials in those institutions then surrendered what was left of their morals to accommodate his evil vision. In time, those institutions became even more corrupt. What politicians say today will be revealing of the rot.

People probably wouldn't celebrate the deaths of horrible people if they had been held to account for their many many many crimes while they were alive.

President Obama called Zohran Mamdani on Saturday — praising his campaign and offering to be a "sounding board" into the future.

Obama said he was invested in Mamdani's success beyond the election on Tuesday.
