Did it smell like Japanese Cherry Blossom?

I found my long forgotten PokΓ©mon card collection, along with several Beanie Baby cards, in a Delia’s bag today. I feel like a walking stereotype.

I was her first call to share the news with. I cannot even begin to explain how much trust and love that takes a kid, who has her lived experiences, to show an adult. But I’m beyond grateful I’m one of her people.

One of my kids called me, from the courthouse, to tell me her guardianship request (who she wants to live with) had been granted, and when I tell you it took all of my willpower not to cry…

Prefacing this to say I’m only on Chapter 14, so please no spoilers, but OH MY GOD SUZANNE COLLINS, WHY ARE YOU TORTURING US (complimentary).

Hahahahahhaha I had to find a short, like one commute long audiobook because I finished my other on Friday and this doesn’t come out til tomorrow 😭

I know this will apply to a select few, but oh my god the update on Garbanzo the cat this morning has me in tears. Rachel is an angel.

The only downside of getting an ARC of THE BUFFALO HUNTER is I cannot use the eBook dictionary feature for certain words, and have to look them up like a Luddite.

You all know I love novelty cookbooks. We had several on our wedding registry, and I’ve posted about some of them before.

Well, I think I have found the crown jewel of my collection.

Hoping for more great horror in 2025. I want more LGBTQ+ horror, more horror from BIPOC writers, more horror mixed with whatever authors love. I want more smart, unique horror that doesn't care about being easy to digest. I want more horror full of positionality. I want it all.

Hate waking up to see the news out of New Orleans. Such a great city full of amazing people who deserve to feel safe during large celebrations.

Here’s to 2025 and the great books planned for this upcoming year!

My three honorable mentions were ROSEMARY’S BABY by Ira Levin (no explanation needed), THE GATHERING by CJ Tudor (an Alaskan police procedural where vampires are real and considered endangered species), and HEADLESS by Scott Cole (a terrifying pandemic that causes people’s heads to…explode).

CHURCH OF FRENDO is the conclusion to the CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD trilogy. It’s no secret I am a fan of Adam’s, but this was his finest work. It’s disgusting, hilarious, and I will be honest: heartbreaking. Get this series for any spooky teen you know.

NIGHTWATCHING is a thriller that will haunt me for many years. So much tension, gaslighting, and downright terrifying moments for the mom and her children. Everytime you think it’s over, it isn’t.

FLOATING HOTEL is a masterclass in shifting character narratives, about a group of misfits that all work for, you guessed it, a floating hotel. I was instantly sucked in by the characters, and stayed for the heartwarming antics, especially a character who is coded as autistic.

THE Z WORD is a hysterical dystopian tale set during a zombie outbreak at Pride, which deals with rainbow capitalism. Highly recommend for Sunshine alone.

Anyway, my top four are a nice variety of genre, and tone. Please reach out if you ever need recommendations for you, for your tiny to pretty big humans, or anyone else!

My biggest recommendation is read before bed, even a few pages, and don’t judge yourself against anyone when it comes to reading. It’s a losing battle, and you don’t deserve that kind of negativity.

I’ve battled with using reading as medication/avoidance before, and finding the balance was super important to me these past two years. I also listen to audiobooks at nearly double speed (which Steve will gladly imitate what he thinks it sounds like for you, if you ask).

I read 135 books this year, and here are my top four faves, with three honorable mentions. Before I get into my picks, I want to caution/explain/advise you not judge yourself against me.
