2/ there is no cure. What they need is highly trained individuals who can help them (the severe and profound) become as independent as possible. You can’t change you child but you can enjoy them and learn from them and love them regardless.

Okay, a spectrum is not a line and assuming someone is better off because they are on the ‘passing’ side of autism does not mean they have a lighter version autism. We should all be speaking out regardless of ability because that is advocacy and it is. It only just a skill we teach SpEd.

I’m not only a special education teacher, I have extensively studied autism, and I’m neurodivergent. I’ve worked with mild ID all the way to those who will never function without assistance and they are all worth respect and are not something to be cured. Just sayin’.
