I’m listening to “Golden” and…Ejae’s tremolo? Is that something a human voice can do? It’s so rapid, brief and subtle my first assumption is that it’s a digital effect; I’ve never heard anyone sing quite like that. If you want to listen yourself, it’s on most of the “oh” vowels in the chorus.

Oh sure, no doubt. If you wanted you could even relate it to the Maiden (Bubbles, innocent), the Mother (Blossom, gaurdian), and the Crone (Buttercup, jaded).

Okay, now that I’ve praised KPop Demon Hunters sufficiently I can point out that the main characters are essentially Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup with glowy magic weapons.

Every so often, out of nowhere, I suddenly think “Oh, yeah, Netflix used to send me movies in the freaking mail. I was in one of the most surreal transitional moments in technological history and I didn’t even know it.”

The only thing in popular animation on the same level is the Spider-Verse saga. If you don’t like it, well, taste is subjective, but if you dismiss it you honestly don’t know what you’re talking about.

Okay, KPop Demon Hunters is genuinely brilliant, independently of your interest in kpop, demons, or the hunting thereof. The animation is genius, the script is a masterclass in concise storytelling, the lyrics are Miranda levels of inspired, and the music always does exactly what it needs to do.
