Probably the second Gormenghast book by Mervyn Peake.

28.09.2025 21:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Greenteeth by @mollyoneillwrites.bsky.social is really likeable fantasy book for fans of folklore of the British Isles. Wonderful atmospheric descriptions and lively adventures. 4.5 stars from me.

The Incandescent by @emilytesh.net is a bittersweet, convincingly genuine look at life at a magical academy, in a modern world just like our own but with spells and demon summoning. 4.5 stars from me.

I thought the Tainted Cup was a fantastic book (and it just won the Hugo Award).
13.09.2025 22:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I wish I had stylishly curled hair like that guy.
11.09.2025 22:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I thought Nevernight, Gods of the Wyrdwood, The Goblin Emperor and The Last Wish were all really good books.

I just finished the book Ocean by David Attenborough and C. Butfield. 5 stars from me. I wish many politicians would read it, as it contains many common-sense and well balanced suggestions for the future of our world's oceans.
06.09.2025 20:11 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I just finished The Art of Legend by Wesley Chu. Another enjoyable yarn with hypnotic martial arts action, amusing parts and sinister intrigue. 4 stars from me. See my review:

Yeesh, kids can be so charming, LOL.
31.08.2025 05:45 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I just finished reading a good book. So, time to start blogging about fantasy books again...
31.08.2025 05:37 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0IT'S HEART OF THE WYRDWOOD RELEASE DAY!
This is the last in the FORSAKEN books, the one where you both go , 'WTF, RJ?' and at the same time think, 'Well, of course! It's all so obvious now!'
So if deeply strange folk horror fantasy and people working to be better is your jam might be for you.
Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor, tackling the backlog.
24.05.2025 01:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0SPFBOX is over - we have our glorious champion, and a super-close runner up!
All of these books are worthy of your attention! #SPFBO
Lawyer's bookshelves (glass cases)! *Gasp!* So jealous right now.
26.04.2025 05:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I liked the action in The Mandalorian. And The Book of Bobba Fett is quite underrated.
22.04.2025 01:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The best WW2 podcast I've heard is Adolf Hitler: Rise and Downfall by Noiser. The whole series was free on Spotify last time I checked. You'll notice a lot of parallels between its story and the U.S.A leadership at the moment.
12.04.2025 04:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've read these WW2 books in the last 5 years and they're all amazing:
* Pacific Skies - Jerome Klinkowitz
* Normandy '44 - James Holland
* Spies, saboteurs and secret missions of WW2 - Tony Matthews
* Stalingrad - Anthony Beevor
* All Hell Let Loose - Max Hastings
Today I reviewed The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson. One of the best fantasy books of 2025 for me: a 700+ epic full of intrigue, well-defined characters, mystery and solid world-building.
(Thanks to Netgalley and Hachette for an ARC of this book.)

Some of us are hanging about waiting for the sequel to Threads of Ash ;-)
01.04.2025 21:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm currently reading The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson. Fantasy intrigue with pleasing undertones of surprisingly melancholy humour. Can't put it down. It's being released later this month.
01.04.2025 06:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Today I reviewed A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett (@robertjbennett.bsky.social, Shadow of the Leviathan 2). Another superior fantasy murder-mystery! 5 stars from me.

21.02.2025 23:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Number 1 for me. Trying to do a thing while getting tangled in another thing.
17.02.2025 22:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've only read 6, I think. My favourite of those was Sourcery.
17.02.2025 04:26 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My teacher read us a few Encyclopedia Brown books. I could never figure out whodunnit from the clues, though. (Any future career as a detective scuttled, haha.)
14.02.2025 04:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Today I reviewed Mushroom Blues by Adrian M Gibson (@adrianmgibson.bsky.social), a finalist book in the #SPFBO X competition. Creative world-building, some dark moments and an appealing partner side character! 4 / 5 stars.

Cats are proven as a support team.
31.01.2025 22:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Dang, if a cat could channel Mr T glaring at a "fool" before giving him "pain", it would be that cat.
30.01.2025 22:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Actually nothing. I'd like to keep experiencing the world as ordinary humans were meant to.
