I think the line he was SUPPOSED to say was something like this: "Christians are more likely than the general population is to foster or adopt children."
Where I land: Most generous interpretation is that he misread/misspoke the concept "adapt" for that of "adopt."

Subject matter: The drawing features a yellow and blue house with multiple figures and a dog, capturing a scene of both daily activity and tension.
Actions: A man is on the roof chasing after chickens, while inside, another figure sits in a rocking chair, reading.
Themes: The painting contrasts different activities: a man in a domestic setting is shown engaged in labor and a more relaxed state.
Artistic style: Consistent with Traylor's work, it uses a simplified, flattened perspective, and the figures are rendered with a distinctive, almost hieroglyphic style.
Materials: The piece is created with colored pencils on paperboard.
Context: Created by Bill Traylor, an artist born into slavery, the work is part of a larger body of work that often depicts life in the Jim Crow South and reflects Southern culture and history.

Have been a fan of BBC’s In Our Time for years. Idiosyncratic but gentle and generous, and for a nerd like me, always interesting. A pleasure to listen to people who care about learning, and sharing knowledge. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/04/m...

A rich old man behind an enormous pike of cookies warns a man with 1 cookie that foreigners want his cookie.

Why is the richest person in history so keen to pit the rest of us against each other?
Oh yes, it's to stop people questioning the current setup, which allows him to accumulate enormous wealth.

Yes it's ADORABLE.

No I don't think I'll capture a cuter goose moment this year. 🐣 πŸͺΆ

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

nerd: hey fellas, i hear alot of calls for abolishing police. but how will we stay safe?

buff shirtless bald guy on laptop:
King, police abolition is not about defunding every department instantly. It's about a gradual process o strategically reallocating resources, funding and responsibility away from police and toward community based models of safety, support and prevention. The people who respond to crises in our community should be people who are best equipped to deal with those crisis.
insanely buff guy on couch with laptop:
Friend I want to echo that last statement and dig down a little further. Crime isn't random. Most off the time, it happens when someone has been unable to meet their basic needs through other means. By shifting money away from police and toward services that actually meet those needs, we'll be able to get to a place where we won't need to rob banks.

jacked dude in gray tee shirt at a desktop pc:
Couldn't have said it better myself, King! This is bigger than just police brutality; it's about how the prison industrial complex, the drug war, immigration law and the web of policy, law and culture that forms our criminal justice system has destroyed millions o lives, and torn apart families. Cops don't prevent crime, they cause it, through ongoing violent disruption of our communities.

The world’s extremely poor are also often extremely remote, with limited access to healthcare & health education. In many developing countries, the governmentβ€”often with the help of the UN and, until this year, USAIDβ€”maintains health posts that bring these services to people living off the grid.

I had been focused on what a suck it is for the NG's partners at home who, e.g., are having to temporarily be single parents. Now I really want to know if the NG members themselves are getting boned beyond a pointless & perhaps demoralizing deployment.
