Obviously going Bibi mode and doing massive strategic bombing would be a horrible idea, but a Hellfire to Bukele’s face with the explicit promise that the knife missiles will continue until we get our people back would be an entirely reasonable course of action to take.

“You are holding our citizens hostage in a concentration camp” is basically the original causus belli in all of world history and a well targeted intervention to secure their release would be a completely reasonable response to that situation.

In the as-yet hypothetical situation that US citizens are being held without cause or hope for return in El Salvador because Bukele/Trump, I truly would not care what happens after an intervention to resolve that. In that event, use of military force to secure their release would be 100% justified.

Bukele’s imprisonment of legal US residents is already probably decent causus belli and if he and Trump succeed in imprisoning our citizens there it 100% will be
