I’m turning 50 next year. I rarely wear deodorant anymore. Many women I know have stopped, too. it's why i had to drop out of veterinary school. bc it was tanking my mental health to see so much suffering and be unable to help. this isn't compassion fatigue; this is just ppl being callous and using psych language to make themselves feel less bad about it.

to do so. it's meant to refer to like... nurses who see ppl in poverty unable to afford care. it was never supposed to mean "you can't feel compassion anymore bc you're tired boohoo." it's meant to give a term for ppl who experience clinical anhedonia as a result of their occupations.

"compassion fatigue," much like "emotional labor" is real, but has been co-opted. it was coined to refer to the feeling that, say, ppl in medical fields get when they're forced to work in an unfair system so they don't have the means to alleviate the suffering of others despite having the knowledge-
