John Roberts has quite literally spent decades trying to dismantle the Voting Rights Act. In 2013, he wrote in the Shelby ruling that Section 5 preclearance wasn't necessary because Section 2 existed to remedy discrimination.

Now SCOTUS looks ready to wipe out Section 2, as well.
