Edmonton Transit Riders

They are going to do both the low-floor LRVs for the Valley Line West, and the high-floor LRVs for the Capital and Metro Lines. I think that some of these will be new designs for Edmonton!

Edmonton uses Flexities for the Valley Line SE, these will be high-floor LRVs for the Capital and Metro lines made by Hyundai-Rotem

This does not guarantee the seating layout for the new trains, but the information will be provided to Hyundai-Rotem as the complete the design and manufacturing of the new trains

Get ready for new trains in 2029 and 2030!

The Hybrid layout (second on the previous post) was by far the preferred option, increasing the width of walking areas between seats, while facing all the seats in the same direction rather than facing each other

We also have have some idea what the seating layouts could look like with the results of the city’s LRT seating survey

2 new options were put against the current layout, changing the seat direction and the width of standing room between seats

These new trains will be longer than our current trains (new max will be 4 cars not 5), and have their doors in new locations. The rendering also shows 2 accessible entrances!

Hopefully this gives more room for riders to spread out if they happen to get on a crowded car, and improves circulation

Last week we got more info on what the new high-floor LRT vehicles will look like!

When these 32 new LRVs arrive, Edmonton will finally retire its Siemens U2 fleet, which have been in service since the system opened in the 70s!

I was once interviewed by Calgary radio and they seemed quite surprised to hear that the CTrain is the highest ridership LRT in US/Canada.

While this is great compared to American and Mexican cities, we are the lowest ranking Canadian city on the list, and much lower than cities around the world. Let's beat Ottawa and Calgary and make Edmonton an even more transit oriented city than we already are!

There are so many helpful tips that we use to get around on ETS a little bit more easily. If you have any tips you use, we want to share them. Send us a description and photo/video to any of our social media accounts.

Express routes have an X at the end of their code, and connect central destinations to the suburbs with long distances in-between bus stops (including the 747)

The 31 is the first Rapid route, similar to an Express, but with higher levels of transit priority!

Frequent routes are numbered from 1 - 9, and come at least every 15-minutes for most of the day

Crosstown routes are numbered from 51 - 56, and connect transit centres across least two quadrants of the city

Local route numbers have three-digits, and tell you which part of the city (quadrant) you are traveling within!

We use bus routes every single day, but a lot of people don't know that there is a system behind the numbering of Edmonton's bus routes

This is what we are seeing in Edmonton too!

Crosstown routes in the suburbs or along major roads have massively increased ridership in the past few years. Travel patterns change over time, grid networks with consistent frequencies are the best for flexibility.
