For a number of years where I voted they'd have volunteers bring baked goods so you could get a brownie or chocolate chip cookie after you voted.

It's important to remember that that's not a real family, it's something "financial samurai" made up (and the tax math is HORRIBLY botched).

I'd be interested in hearing what others come to mind for you.

I do feel it's entering "forgotten classic" status. Lots of people on #bskybc who are squarely in the target market have never heard of it / read it. It was hugely impactful for me but then I came of age in the late 90s so...

If there was a god of statistical analysis Simon would be eating a lightning bolt right now.

Given some of his arguments I feel he felt reading a book before critiquing it was also optional.

This is a great opportunity if you are nearby -- it's a great film in a lot of ways and the cinematography is definitely one of them.

I mean it's hard to do right but usually model owners do better than just adding a preamble to every single query which is pretty clearly what happened there.

People should absolutely be more upset that companies are openly paying bribes into a slush fund. But the reason you need to have and enforce laws against it is these bribes are incredibly cheap compared to taxes. Alphabet paid $20 million for this but $20 BILLION in taxes last year (worldwide).

They probably DO need lights as I'd be shocked if there wasn't a vision system. But advantages not listed include they don't get RSI and can work alongside other mechanized systems with fewer precautions (forklift incidents kill dozens and injure thousands every year)

Summerland, by Hannu Rajaniemi, would fit the bill.

That's a little broad -- training this particular model was ruled fair use but given the substitution part of fair use analysis I doubt that fully generalizes.

There is some paradox of choice effect with streaming.

I like how 45 minutes deciding what to watch is bad but spending the whole week planning what to watch is good....

"The history of the world was written in women’s wombs and women’s blood and she would never be allowed to change it" is just an unbelievably hard line.

I wouldn't agree with his point even if he were accurate, but even 10 years ago I don't believe ANY C compiler supported the stdatomic.h operations.

I think his description of AB 1064 as prohibiting 'marketing' is misleading since it required blocking access without age verification. (Newsom's stated reasons for the veto are unrelated and bad, though)

I don't think it's a product strategy, I think it's a stock valuation strategy. Putting this out before earnings betting the market will still reward "being all in on AI".

This is the "Who's Who" business model, right? Where most of the money comes from people commissioning the puff pieces and then you earn a little garnish on top of that because they buy a bunch of $300 subscriptions so they can leave the article in the lobbies of their businesses, etc.

Hedges is betting that the Supreme Court will quickly lift the TRO through the shadow docket regardless of the lower court record and I'm afraid that's probably a winning bet.
