Less than 6 months ago @discord.com had a data breach exposing ID’s of 70,000 + of its users but …apparently hasn’t learned anything?

ID checks don’t make the internet safer, they make us all more vulnerable.

What the heck is a "Panican"? is this some dog-whistle, 4chan slang that they think gets them brownie points with the base?

and this doesn't mean communities using platforms can't have their own rules about "adult" content and how much they want to allow, it's their right to decide what kind of community they want to grow

but a blanket ban for ALL users in ALL communities reeks of overreach

i've pointed it out before, but a lot of far-right actors would include depictions/representation of queer people as "pornographic"

and, of course, "adult" content bans overwhelmingly police women's bodies far more than they do men's

i'm not even explicitly searching for adult/porn content when i say this

a blanket ban on "adult" content, when your primary audience is adults, is a major red flag

what constitutes something being too "adult" or "pornographic"? How is the rule enforced? To what degree?

i am instantly skeptical of any platform, intended for use by grown adults, that forbids "adult" or "pornographic" content

especially if that platform refuses to define what they consider "adult" or "pornographic"

i've seen some people promoting Root as an alternative to Discord… just a heads up, y'all might want to reread their community guidelines…

It could be really bad for Discord if Californians contact the office of the Attorney General to report the potential violations of CCPA and CALOPPA citing the recent breach from a few months back where 1.5tb of user data and millions of IDs were leaked, but who can say for sure?

as far as app genres go, chat apps are easily the most commoditized. like does discord think they have the "program where people type at each other" market *that* on lock? cancel your nitro subscription and let's find out together

sad as it is to say, i'll be looking around for an alternative to discord. this kind of behavior is neither endurable nor permissible.

-The long awaited (much warned about) intro of “AI” recognition. It starts w/ searching for a “brown dog” but means the tech is there for lisence plate reading, face recognition, searching for suspects by description, etc
