I see grocery/takeout shaming discourse going around again, so this is your periodic historian reminder that cooking from scratch daily while working has never been sustainable, and for millennia everyone either relied on takeout & restaurants or ate in huge households w/ big dorm-like group dining.

Epstein Barr Virus and causes of disease

Epstein Barr Virus and causes of disease

In this work, we focus on Epstein-Barr virus-- an enigma in many ways. While >90% of us have been infected by this endemic virus, most of us will live just fine. However, for a subset of the population, this infection can be a trigger of disease-- from MS to cancer to autoimmunity. 2/

The left’s response to the right’s (stunningly toxic) racism regarding immigration is ill-considered. Not just politically nonviable but bad policy.

Yes, purity of blood is a psychopathic concept. But preservation of cultural integrity is not.

This is the lesson that Québec has for the world.

The Horizon scandal shows why we can't turn justice over to unaccountable technology systems. A completely unnecessary and heartbreaking tragedy.

This piece from last year underscores how this scandal is also a cautionary tale for unaccountable uses of AI www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...

Someone asked me today how to get better at scientific writing. I'm not the best person to ask because I find my own writing very inadequate! But the tips I thought of were:

1. Practice, and practice with co-authors who are better writers than you. Observe how they make edits and copy them.

If I took anything from this great conversation, it was a call for clean energy nerds and climate hawks to give a damn about how our agriculture is eating the Earth: There’s no way to fix climate without big changes in how we make and eat food.
