My wife left before I did. First postmo group she attended she remarked to me how the ExMo men dominated the group. She later joined up with an ExMo group that is exclusively women. The patriarchy does tend to come along with ExMo men and it’s something I have to keep reminding myself about.

If Bradley ordered or passed on the orders for the illegal strike, he is culpable regardless and I have no sympathy for him.

Queue the aphorism: The good found in Mormonism isn’t unique to Mormonism.

Ok, I read it again. Streeter and I are on the same page. I agree - ExMos generally don’t give up the good they’ve learned from Mormonism. The juxtaposition of his statement with the faulty assumption in the Ward Radio episode title threw me.

It was via @blairhodges.bsky.social ‘s TikTok that I learned about the Deseret News piece. This is very good.

And frankly, Deseret News (@deseret.com.web.brid.gy), have you watched Ward Radio? I find it somewhat antithetical to the 13th Article of Faith. Just saying.

A collaboration with Latter-day Saint hosts of Ward Radio, a faithful, light-hearted show by several members of the church, ended up being titled "Good things ex-Mormons tend to abandon that they shouldn't," with Streeter suggesting those who leave think seriously about retaining three Latter-day Saint beliefs: universal humanity (seeing everyone as a child of God), seeking the good as summed up in the 13th Article of Faith (being honest, benevolent and doing good to all men), and practicing forgiveness and grace.

I’ve experienced the opposite of what Streeter, an ExMo, is purportedly saying. I have had a much MORE increased appreciation for humanity on the outside of the LDS faith - especially for the marginalized. I still hold to the principles of the 13th Article of Faith. I’m a bit confused by this para.

Why can’t ex-Mormons just leave the LDS Church alone? I was prepared for pushback from very orthodox Mormons who might be unwilling to admit there are serious retention problems in the U.S. LDS Church, but surprisingly, former Church members have been mo...

Survey says “…most former Mormons left as teenagers and are happy as clams. That they're not angst-ridden, and don't seem to be looking back with regret.”

But YMMV

The Mormon repentance process, as I understood it, would include turning yourself in for crimes - confession to a Bishop isn’t sufficient. So now I’m wondering how in the hell does someone get re-baptized after a CSA confession without going through criminal adjudication.

Some units of the military have shown they’re more willing to do crimes because they’ve convinced themselves they’re doing the work of god. Special Operations units have an especially poor track record in this regard.

I love that the reporter just laid out the military law. I’m not sure what Leavitt is hoping with her nonsensical response because the wheels are coming off.

4 Out of 5 US Troops Surveyed Understand the Duty to Disobey Illegal Orders With his Aug. 11, 2025, announcement that he was sending the National Guard – along with federal law enforcement – into Washington, D.C. to fight crime, President Donald Trump edged U.S. troops closer...

When I was in the military we received annual “law of armed conflict” training. US military personnel are trained to refuse illegal orders and especially those that are clearly illegal. This is not obscure military doctrine.

DoD’s Law of War manual provides as an example of “Clearly Illegal Orders” an order “to fire upon the shipwrecked.” This is exactly what is alleged against Pete Hegseth and the forces that fired on survivors in the Caribbean. There is no nuance.

I didn’t know it was a series. Perhaps they catch the excommunication later. The producers, director, and distribution company appear to have strong LDS ties according to the Form C-AR they filed with the SEC.

For some additional leadership context mission presidents preside over district presidents when there is no Stake. When I got my patriarchal blessing recommendation in the Philippines, in a district, my interviews were with the BP (my Dad) then the mission president.

Wowee, someone really is in denial that Hubener was factually excommunicated. I'm not optimistic that the 4-part streaming series won't be some kind of faith-affirming historical revisionism to save face for the church. Whitewashing LDS Nazis is not the way.

The LDS church still regards me as a member- I haven’t removed my name because that’s their hoop not mine. But it would be ironic in the distant future if the church tried to proudly point to people like me as their anti-fascist members who vehemently opposed the rising Trump dictatorship.
