Post image Project mission statement:

Our main goal here is to encourage a better appreciation of our historic built environment, as well as offering advice on mending, sourcing, and generally looking after these amazing features.

We are an inclusive project, so you don’t need to be an architectural expert to join in the hunt for images. We’d appreciate when sharing a find with the group of a private residence, that you do not give an exact address of where the image was taken. This is for the security of the residents.

We have zero tolerance on hate speech, and encourage community contributors to stay on topic when posting to our page. We understand there’s a lot going on in the world, and we all have strong opinions, but let this group be an island of wholesome content in the sea of hot takes.

Thank you.
TT

Any architect or interior designer should be following tenament tiles...along with anyone else who takes an interest in what's behind that close door.

@tnmnttiles.bsky.social this is in my own building. The rest of the hallway is decrepit and horrible but this part has lovely tile.

We were very happy to find these walls and floors intact and well cared for.

Most Tenements have factors that deal with the common areas these days. I remember when it was a rota, and folk took their turn to clean. Folk felt more invested that way.

I’ve seen some right sights over the years. Fled from a few. :)

This image shows a staircase within an older tenement building. There is shoulder height tiling and a wooden banister, with unusual balustrade painted with white paint.

I did the public tour just before folk were moved in. If I recall, there’s spider inlay at the entrance which is an unusual detail?

My flat has a very similar painted glass window in the door! Less nice tiles though

Certainly looks like the same character. The framing details are different though. Will see if I can find the close up, we can play spot the difference :)

A small peek into a decade of street stomping and stairwell lurking. I hope to organise a proper celebration before the year is out.

Thank you for the likes and shares, today. 10 years of work, is worth noting even in a small way.

This is a screengrab of our 1st ever content post, from Twitter. It’s dated 15/06/2015. The day our project was created. The images include four detail shots of Wally close walls.

After encouraging myself to go on some wellbeing wanders, around my new neighbourhood, I began photographing and sharing images of wally close entrances on my personal page. These images began to gain interest. I decided to give them their own platform and Tnmnttiles was born.

Above is a screengrab of our 1st ever Instagram post. It’s dated 17/12/2017. The image is a shot of an angled stairwell, with a fully tiled wall and a round window

After discovering that our images were being lifted and shared without credit over Instagram, I decided to establish a page for the project and reclaim our content.

The above screen grab shows the 1st selection of images shared under the “southside” album on our FB page. It shows 5 images, with another ‘+6’ available to view.

After some lovely press came out about the project, I was asked about starting a FB for those who weren’t on the other platforms. On the 27/01/21 I did just that. Trying to keep the content different across platforms, I would vary posts of new stairwells, with images from the previous 6yrs of archiving.

Above is a screengrab from our 1st Bsky post. It shows an entrance landing, with a dark wood door at the end. The walls are tiled, and two the right you can see a section of stair next to a bike wheel and a large cream couch.

On the 18/10/23 I decided to move our main platform from Twitter to Bsky, and stop adding to what is now called X. Bsky content is a selection of past images across previous platforms and newly archived spaces.

Thank you all for being part of our journey.

Below are a collection of the 1st images shared across all of our 4 platforms. I’ve included a little factoid in the description about the projects timeline.

The image shows a staircase in a Glasgow tenement. The style of black wrought iron railings and grey stone steps are a reoccurring characteristic of Tenement buildings. The choice of Green paint on the walls and doors is a little less common.
