I think if they really want to keep doing Amuro & Char, I think an adaption of Tomino's 0079 novels with the approach that Gquuuuuux took could work- same characters and war, different story with new VAs and character & MS designs that can appeal to new audiences without all the baggage... #Gundam

One more thing: check out Gquuuuuux designer Ikuto Yamashita's take on Nu Gundam and Sazabi from 1989, and then check out the concepts for Gquuuuuux- the man has clearly had some thoughts about his version of a Gundam for a long time, and just happened to play with some of them in Evangelion...

If anything, the Eva references and homages in Gquuuuuux are a full circle moment. Rant over!

What people always seen to forget is Evangelion has Gundam in it's DNA (Anno of course worked on Char's Counterattack and heck, Eva unit 1 was originally white in the proposal). If Gquuuuuux proves nothing else it is that the old Eva/ Gainax team are OG Gundam fans, and it shows.

If you replaced all the designs in the show with Okawara ones, i bet there wouldn't be any comparisons made. And before anyone suggests that the Gquuuuuux itself is too Eva like, I would argue that it is far closer to the Unicorn Gundam in usage than Eva Unit 01...

Hot take: I feel like the 'criticisms' that Gquuuux is too similar to Eva are beginning to feel incredibly lazy. Sure, there certainly homages, and the designs have Eva-esque elements, but nothing has happened in Gquuuux that hasn't happened in a previous UC Gundam show before....

Something like that- it was basically a 'What-If'style reimagining of the original 1979 Gundam series' first episode (and explores the subsequent ramifications in that setting). Would definitely be worth watching to get the references, but also on its own merits as a piece of anime history!
