Using craigslist for the first time in a long time, and I'm just so thrilled at how *fast* everything is. Turns out not having tonnes of ads, javascript, and f e a t u r e s results in a site that just works, and works very well.

Lololol mine is in part because I have a dream burlesque number to that song where I strip tease starting in a full big bird outfit

Sure I'm really proud of the a11y work I do, but this? Getting people to call buttons buttons instead of always CTAs? This is my real impact, my pride and joy.

I wrote a blog post about this: benjie.ca/blog/2025/05...

Inspired by some similar thoughts by Clayton Ramsey: claytonwramsey.com/blog/prompt/

I am all of these, except the pigeon, sadly. I yearn for the skies.

So I'm going to add a nice gallery for photos I've taken that I'm proud of, and also tack on a simple UI for my own use for sharing simple links and things I liked, rather than full blown writing posts.

I built my own static site generator. I have no idea if what I have done is the Best Way, on the backend, to do this, but hey! It works great for what I need, and I'll keep hacking on it.

I want it to be my own home for things I find interesting, beyond just the random web-dev blogging I was doing

My goal for it so far has been to be as vanilla as possible. The old site was using Jekyll with a theme someone else built, and really didn't show off any skill. But I also built it before I even got my first developer job, so I was pretty proud of just being able to figure out how to use Jekyll.

I just published a complete redesign of my website! It's still a bit of a work in progress... I was tempted to find a geocities style "Under Construction" gif to slap on it. I've been working on it very slowly for a bit, and figured it was best to just push up what I have now, and keep iterating!

Beyond underwear overdoses, bar eavesdropping drama, and incredible academic paper titles, the best reason to follow @swilua.bsky.social is to rememeber to Never Forget the Fae. Doing so unlocked a wellspring of inspiration for The Novel that's been tugging on my neurons for two years.

I can't emphasize enough that the most important thing journalists can do right now is publish exactly this kind of article

I'm working on my own website again as part of this trend... But it also feels like a very siloed phenomenon. Most of my friends are not Tech People, and they have no interest in just rolling their own site - they're looking at how to give up the web as much as possible instead.

And (I say this as a hardcore meditator) endless stark meditation retreats and EEG headsets are not a substitute for real spiritual practice, which is always based in community, and insufficient as supports for the psychedelic experience.

PANEL 1: It's New York Innovation Fest 2025. This is some kind of moderator interview with Billy Scorris who probably funded some app. Billy is talking. BILLY: "These ideas of 'the weekend' or 'the 40-hour workweek' -- they're the product of the turn of the *last* century."
PANEL 2: BILLY: "And maybe that was the deal you worked out with Andrew Carnegie or J.P. Morgan -- guys who *definitely* were too cucked to cut it in a place like Silicon Valley, by the way."
PANEL 3: BILLY: "But we've learned a lot more about building a surveillance state and successfully managing a genocide in the last hundred years -- so I think we should get to *renegotiate* with you apes."
PANEL 4: The moderator smiles and speaks. MODERATOR: "Another inspiring vision of tomorrow from one of the innovators of today: Billy Scorris, founder, entrepreneur, father."
PANEL 5: Billy looking down. BILLY: "I can't wait to pay half of you to dig graves for the other half. To laugh as the survivors eat human shit and thank me."
