Cats, bikes, urban policy and evidence-based policy generally, environment, books, quilts, and lots of randomness. GenX. Canada. Let's try not to make things worse, shall we?

As the parent of a toddler, the idea having food thrown at you is felony assault is tragicomic.

Canada's national parks are free for everyone this summer. Should they be? | CBC News Free admission to Canada's national parks this summer has helped draw visitors to the country's most popular parks, fuelling traffic jams and raising environmental concerns.

Don't be grumpy about people using parks. Make more parks!

The current level of parks is clearly not keeping up with demand (and was largely established at a time when the population was much smaller).

The bourbon thing is interesting as Kentucky voted 64.5% for Trump last year, higher than 2016 and 2020.

It's a very acute & clean feedback loop.

Reboot Anthony Bourdainโ€™s โ€œNo Reservationsโ€ but with Alan Dershowitz and the whole show is just enjoying him never getting food because heโ€™s a querulous, joyless douche and heโ€™s constantly demanding that the Laotian street vendor or whoever denounce Hamas before heโ€™ll try the khao jee

Millionaire trophy hunter gored to death by 1.3 tonne bull on African safari Asher Watkins, 52, was tracking a 1.3 tonne Cape Buffalo bull, known as the Black Death, on Sunday when it suddenly charged at him at 35mph.

Ah that's lovely news.

Itโ€™s Easy to Hate Traffic Cameras. But They Do Save Lives. They raise issues of fairness, and critics claim theyโ€™re only about revenue. More speed and red-light cameras, however, would prevent a lot of deaths and injuries.

Yes, traffic cameras work, but it's a myth that people hate them!

Survey after survey shows that most people support automatic enforcement (and often want more of it).

This is a false controversy, fed by a minority of disgruntled drivers & journalists seeking narratives with conflict.

Bearskin airlines in Ontario is similar. Awesome fun. The same person checks you in, takes your bag, puts it on the plane, then gets in and flies it. So nice to have it be a properly human experience.
