American musical satirist Tom Lehrer dies at 97, US media report Lehrer, a Harvard-trained mathematician, wrote darkly humorous songs, often with political connotations.

Tom Lehrer was a fixture of my youth. His songs are often just as timely today as when he wrote them back in the late 1950s and 60s.

I wish that he could have lived long enough for him to see them become outdated.
