CHAPTER I EVERY GOOD ADVENTURE STARTS IN A TAVERN POV: OZANNA If Arlo didn't shut his mouth, I was going to climb over the bar, shove my money down his throat, and take the change out of his ass. He was just standing there, chatting away with another customeran infuriatingly easy smile deepening the lines of his aged face while I flailed and failed to get his attention. But it wasn't until the third I'll be with you soon gesture that I hauled myself up on the stool-rung to hurl a copper at him. And that's when my gaze fell upon the tip boxes. There were four of them, small and wooden, secured to the wall behind the bar, one for each of his regular tavern maids. Including one for his wife, Tabi, who was the cook. Since tips were easily stolen from the tables, it was Arlo's policy to collect them along with payment and place the money in the proper box. And from my elevation, I could see each name painted on the lid above the coin slot.
