I was lucky enough to travel to Slovenia last week on a rare kid-less vacation, and wow. Nature heals.

Went into the trip not wanting to plan or pack and feeling like a nervous wreck (life these days, y’know?), and came home feeling… well, at least quite a bit better!

Our world is still beautiful.

And he did. His gaze alighted on a scrawny face with eyes as wide and dark as a deer’s. Her dark blonde hair was streaked with gold, her lips were full and sad. He stopped before her, and they trembled, then hardened into a frown. She jutted out her chin and glared at him as if to say ’I’m not the one you’re looking for.’ But she was. The magic in him knew it, the flame in his heart expanding. He smiled at her, and her eyes narrowed. He knew what he must look like to her: Solidly built but not too heavy, his coat and tail dark brown, matching his hair and beard; he was tanned from his work in the fields, with a broad nose like all centaurs, and had his mother’s blue eyes. Looking her over, he spied the pointed tips of her ears peeking out from her wavy hair. He felt his smile broadening, recalling that elves disliked dealing with centaurs, seeing them as little more than women-stealing brutes. Those days were long past, but for once he didn’t mind carrying such a reputation.

I enjoy working with her character even though it can be a bit of a challenge at times. This moment of vulnerability was incredibly fun, because she gets to show off her softer side. There's still a delicate person under all those layers.
