In response to a ruling from a federal judge in Rhode Island, the Institute of Museum and Library Services reinstated all previously canceled grants in every state and territory. It's a huge win for libraries and our communities.

We were explicitly warned to wear pants, not skirts, on this account. Also, we were warned not accept a cup of tea if we'd have to balance it on a bed.

I'm hoping this will help the TAs be more succinct; it will also help the students understand exactly where THIS paper is at. I like rubrics because they give students a sense of how their work *could* be hitting, but if they're not reading it that way, then it's not effective.

This round, I've given my TAs 3 categories (1 - Argumentation and analysis; 2- grammar and style; 3- formatting) and have suggested they give 2 sentences of feedback for part 1, and then 1 each for 2 and 3.

I started the year with a rubric, but I'm not sure that either my TAs or students got the intended value out of it.

I've got 20 papers left to grade before the next stack comes in...so of course I'm procrastinating with a pedagogy post!

QUESTION: when grading student essays, do you use end comments or rubrics? Both? Neither?
