I can attest to printing out an extra 10% of exams in the OpenDyslexie font, just in case any dyslexic or ADHD students would feel more comfortable with it. So far, nobody has died from my act of flagrant wokeness.

I canโ€™t handle how fucking shameless it is. Last week, I was watching Mahmoud Al Shebrawy fight to survive Hep A from unsafe water in Gaza, yet in Israel itโ€™s fucking Tu Bโ€™shvat, and everyoneโ€™s fucking planting trees and singing?!

I canโ€™t tell you how fucking sick this makes me in light of the Birthright organizationโ€™s propagandist appeal for Jewish volunteers to visit Israel to โ€œplant treesโ€

Today was the last day of my Agatha Christie class, which I ended with the traditional "field trip" to check out the exam room. I was getting a bit misty and my generous students humoured my sentimental request for a hands-in "Go Team!" to say goodbye. ๐Ÿฅน

I suppose this is entirely unsurprising, considering that last week, Trump told Mamdani that we was fine with the title.

Me teaching my Agatha Christie students about Charles Lindberghโ€™s anti-interventionism as indicative of his support of fascism and eugenics. ABSURDLY topical.

my Shakespeare's Medieval Kings class next semester has filled to the brim. And where's the NYT thinkpiece about that?!?! Gen Z: they just can't get enough of Shakespeare's medieval kings! Parents: is your Zoomer child secretly addicted to Tudor historical drama?!

We were explicitly warned to wear pants, not skirts, on this account. Also, we were warned not accept a cup of tea if we'd have to balance it on a bed.

I'm hoping this will help the TAs be more succinct; it will also help the students understand exactly where THIS paper is at. I like rubrics because they give students a sense of how their work *could* be hitting, but if they're not reading it that way, then it's not effective.

16.11.2025 16:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 4    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This round, I've given my TAs 3 categories (1 - Argumentation and analysis; 2- grammar and style; 3- formatting) and have suggested they give 2 sentences of feedback for part 1, and then 1 each for 2 and 3.

I started the year with a rubric, but I'm not sure that either my TAs or students got the intended value out of it.

I've got 20 papers left to grade before the next stack comes in...so of course I'm procrastinating with a pedagogy post!

QUESTION: when grading student essays, do you use end comments or rubrics? Both? Neither?
