Performance on write is a big one, but so is performance on read! Smaller data chunks means better cacheability and fewer network bytes.
Other benefits include:
* Unambiguous data modeling
* Semantic field meanings
* Simpler auditing
* Easier to parallelize for exceptionally large systems
