In the new Pynchon novel a woman named Glow Tripforth del Vasto refers to her ex-husband as “a professor of jealousy” and all I could think of was the Koko Birkin bag tweet 💀

A 4.5-star Letterboxd review of The Naked Gun (2025) by benq31
It's easy for me to recall the last comedy I saw in a theater that made me laugh this hard: Hundreds of Beavers. It is much harder, however, to recall the last studio comedy that killed me as much as The Naked Gun did.
Apart from being extremely funny--there are a million jokes and I'm pretty sure all of them landed????--there are other virtues here. The score by Lorne Balfe, the fact that it's lit and shot like an actual movie instead of an insurance commercial, the fact that the jokes are written instead of just being the result of filming the actors riffing ad nauseum until one of their riffs lands.
Overall it's clear that the filmmakers and performers took a lot of care with the film, which is one reason why I believe it'll become a classic. It's too early to say studio comedies are back, but The Naked Gun offers hope for a brighter, funnier future at the multiplex.

a 3.5-star review of The Fantastic Four: First Steps on Letterboxd.
Impressive visuals (grading on a curve for Marvel here but there’s far less uncanny CG sheen), lovely score, and a solid story about family. Far less action than you’d expect.
Joseph Quinn should get a Razzie nom for this; absolutely awful in a role almost anyone could play.
I do feel like this movie might grow on me on further viewings, but at first blush I am surprised (pleasantly or not; still have to suss that out) at how melancholy it is.

It is grimly hilarious that the only actor who has the chops to play a goof-ass Batman in the Gunnverse is also playing the dark Batman in the Reevesverse. The most elegant solution is just to have Pattinson play two different Batmen.

A 4.5-star review of Superman (2025) on Letterboxd
Overstuffed, poorly paced, and doesn't have a single memorable image--with apologies, but you can tell it's lensed by the guy responsible for The Flash--but damn does James Gunn's Superman ever have its heart in the right place.
Your mileage may vary based on your tolerance for earnestness and Silver Age comic book bullshit, but this ticked almost every box for me. The brain is telling me this is a gentleman's 3.5-star film but the heart is telling me it's so much more. I mean, my God, the cast. Picking a favorite is damn near impossible but Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor has to be on the pantheon of comic-book villains, right? No, he won't win an Oscar or anything, but as someone who hasn't loved any live-action Luthor performance I thought he was essentially perfect in the role.
Yeah, I'd watch another few of these.
