I love your posts. As a frequenter of 2nd hand record shops, buying the records I didn't feel able to buy in the 70s & 80s, married to a music fan whose taste barely goes beyond 1978 and a regular watcher of old music programs on BBC2 & 4 I can honestly say I have only heard of about 1% of them πŸ˜‚

Thank you for sharing, I could have been a passer-by! I haven't been back for a few years but from Google the shops have changed. Gone the antiquarian book shop and the Board game shop sadly. Not sure TK max has the same ambience.

I taught in secondary for 31 years and during the last few years we were having significant numbers of children coming to us where their reading age was such they needed help to access our science texts. I realised that I had had no instruction on how to teach children to read nor strategies to use

Thank you for the warning. Frankly I struggle with all Christmas adverts finding them tiresome, ghastly (as you suggest) or unfathomable (perfume) though I guess it will not be long before they are replaced with holiday adverts and we are subjected once again to Ms Glynne wanting to hold our hand.

Sunday - Venezuela; History of Advent; Tom Stoppard - BBC Sounds William Crawley takes a look at the ethical and religious issues of the week.

I enjoyed the piece from the wonderful @IMcMillan on Radio4 this morning. He was reminiscing about his time as a bell ringer in a neighbouring parish. Listen here, from 7 mins 20 www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Even non-science educators are happy to bandy about incorrect scientific language and justify it as "the evolution of language" or "as long as the meaning / message is understood it doesn't matter."

Excellent idea. I have writer-friends and sometimes they don't get the science quite right. I've tried to subtly offer my services as a scientific proof reader, but to no avail. I also think (controversial) that some writers don't really think it is important to get the science right.

Increasingly I worry where the real power lies in the US government, is it Vance? It is not Trump. Tha latter has shown that he is increasingly not cognitively skilled enough to put together a document like this, so who is writing it? Trump has no ideology and this is beginning to form one.

After a busy couple of days, just taking time out to watch "Ice cold in Alex." At one point our heroes decide to hand-crank the engine to move it imperceptibly up the side of a dune. Is this possible? Well of course physicists on the internet have done the maths. www.open.edu/openlearn/sc...
