A white monitor barn sits up the slope in this just-after-dawn photo. Soft light turns its white face pink and its silver roof shines a touch more blue. Mostly dormant grass hosts scattered leaves, giving way only to the tree line in the distance.

Despite barns being one of my favorite buildings to photograph, I don't often get the chance to. Here's one next to a pond that I spent dawn at the other week.

A growing plurality of orange and yellows dot this mountain. Clouds loom heavily on the frame, threatening to take away the sun for the evening.

A bush and conifer tree in the foreground give way to the rolling hills of appachia behind them. Mostly green on this side, still bright colors freckle the landscape below and into the distance.

I've been reading George Masa's Wild Vision (Brent Martin) and I highly recommend it if you have any interest in NC/Appalachian photography. He's no small part in why we have the Parks and the Appalachian trail.

Love the framing!

A muddy road in the woods, light beams down on an open section before shrouding us again in its lovely shade.

From an open field, the red clay path for work trucks disappears into the trees. Cirrus clouds dull the bright blue sky.

From July: My partner and I continued after the trail ended down an access road for municipal services. Taken w/ my Olympus XA (now w/ broken rewinder).

The beginnings of Autumn in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Trees have begun to turn providing splotches of red, orange, and yellow amongst the green. This image follows a valley half shrouded in shadow up towards the peak. Bright sun twists around the mountain providing bright early evening sun in patches not blocked.

Nearing a wonderful time of year in the mountains. For ease, I rented a zoom for this trip compared to my usual "bag of primes". Must be nice for these zoom users to not have to walk so far!

From the parking lot of Waterrock Mountain. A van decked out for living sits at the bottom of the frame. The sun has set behind us and trees barely grace the image at the same height of the van. spent a day on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Gorging myself on views and romanticizing the open road. Conspiring that I could van life or attempt a thru hike of this beautiful state. My final image of the evening.

Bright trees give way to blue shadows in the background, a muddy image if there ever was one. The bridge, supposedly one stopping point for the eye is lost in it.

This latest roll is fraught with issues, plus four negatives are missing from their sleeve. It's okay, accidents happen, sometimes chems are older, and labs are busy. Color shifts aside, many lack compositionally, which is all me.

The trees, a pleasing palette of soft yellows, greens, and a few bright red patches sit on the shoreline of a lake. The sky is quickly brightening as high clouds move away revealing the morning blue underneath.

I love the depth you can achieve this time of year. Some of the trees begin their change very early creating a subtle palette of color versus the stark wall of green during the mid summer.

Three trees have fallen in the forest. One completely on its side, another leans the opposite onto more trees. The last, our primary subject, leans at a 45 degree angle. Shrouded black against the backdrop of the green. its winding branches reach to the top of the image. From the rock in the second picture, a recently fallen tree juts out into water. Framed by tall pines and more on each side of the water they narrow into a dark stream in the middle of the frame. Sunlight tickles the top of the trees in the background.

I had to double check my negative to make sure this ghosting wasn't a scanning issue, and unfortunately, it's not. I think it detracts from the image I had in mind, but maybe someone else likes the effect?

Early sunlight pierces the forest veil, a ray illuminated by a slight haze from the lake shines on a row of trees. The forest floor is covered in dead limbs and small amounts of green plants growing between them. Their purply shadow courtesy of ektar.

The sun, recently blocked by clouds moving in, shines through for a very purple sunset

The sun, much lower in the sky now, a last gap in the clouds shines through the lake towards us. The shot is framed by wooded shoreline.

From an evening walk at my usual haunt. Fast moving clouds closed in as sunset drew near, my image disappearing behind them.
I've spent many evenings this summer checking weather and airplane radar to get the image in my head onto a negative.

From a new walking trail. Leftover pines block a new neighborhood from view save for a small gap where an excavator is parked behind allowing us a window to see the change they try to hide.
