The reasons why caffeine & nicotine are legal (while cannabis isn't) are twofold:
1. Nicotine & especially caffeine are highly profitable legal drugs that can increase productivity at the workplace.
2. Criminalizing weed is an easy way to force black people into prison slavery.

Authenticity isn't a task, & there are no steps to make you more authentic.
Inauthenticity is a false consciousness; all you do is you.
This false consciousness is defined by the fear of what we are not, confusion about what we are, & the refusal to accept what we may become.

You HAVE to read Assata's autobiography.
It was on my reading list for a while, and now that I'm finally getting around to it, I wish I had sooner.
This excerpt, from early in the book, is particularly compelling.

Ableism & Suffering, 1/6π§΅
Saying it would be better if disabled people were never born is ableist, even if it's "because they suffer".
Replace disability with gender/race in this context & the issue becomes obvious, but eugenics is so hegemonic that most people don't even KNOW the word "ableism".

Ending with some facts. Disability comes from many causes, with many shapes. I was born with 1 kidney but got lung scarring after nearly dying to chronic pneumonia. Long COVID is an example of eugenicist policies leading to more chronic illnesses. Also if you get old you WILL become disabled.

5/6π§΅
If we (disabled) were truly valued as having equal worth relative to other human beings, societies would take every measure to improve our lives while also maximizing our autonomy (which ideally should include the right to die), but instead we suffer policies of social murder.
03.09.2025 22:52 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
4/6π§΅
No disabled or chronically ill person exists whose life is not worsened by ableism. MAiD & gene-selective abortion practices are eugenicist because they shape the composition of our communities to the detriment of disabled people based on a social devaluing of their lives.

3/6π§΅
Even when a disability causes unpreventable suffering, this harm is never in a vacuum. For example, people who suffer from chronic pain, especially women & POC, face constant barriers to access pain relief medicine (financial, physician bias, regional lack of access to care).

2/6π§΅
Let's start with common ground. I hope we can all agree bodily autonomy as a right must be applied consistently, & protection from discrimination based on things out of your control like skin colour, assigned gender at birth, national origin & disability is also important.

Stop cowering in fear from your own subjectivity!
Subjectivity is what makes you dangerous; repressing it for some mirage of infallibility or detachment is self-sabotage and will render you politically inert!

Picture of Jack Layton in black-orange monotype, with his last words quoted, "My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world."
Jack Layton died 14 years ago today of cancer.
He led the New Democratic Party to its greatest historical success (Official Opposition), moving Canadian politics leftward & becoming a martyr for millions of progressives.
His naΓ―vety came from a place of real kindness, which is rare. I miss him.
