Working on a contact damage mechanic unlocked a different mechanic on it's own.

I present you the dwarf pogo.

Works by just trading a bit of health to get yeeted a bit and then you an remain airborne, could be a fun little mini game.

Yeah, felt like a proper game which was really wierd but very nice obviously. The Steam deployment pipelne is also very nice, I expected much more friction but really kudos to them for making the whole process really smooth. I half expected this to be a pain but I am surprised how easy it was

Been developing this for the past ~3.5 months give or take but getting this to be playable on a Steam Deck actually felt amazing and it felt like a real game for the first time, even if it has very basic functionality :)

The more I use them, the more I like them! It helps me better rationalise what I am trying to do when it's localised into one particular thing. I see that sometimes I have to duplicate code but so far it has been no problem, I want to see what patterns emerges instead of making the wrong abstraction

Haha, sure! A dwarf wielding oversized weapons does unga bunga to enemies and smashes them left and right, yeets them off the screen. Heavy hammer hits shake the local environment. Raw, visceral kinetic smashing bundled with physics. At least that's what the goals is! Do you work on any games?

Yes I am, itโ€™s going well so far and no major roadblocks, fingers crossed it will be mostly smooth until a playtest build is ready.

Yeah, I can see this and thatโ€™s absolutely fine. But tastes change over time and you might find them appealing. Permadeath can be brutal but there is the rogue-lite too which is a bit less punishing.

Will definitely consider this, I have been exploring combos as a side thought to be honest but perhaps I need to bring them forward and try a few things and see how it goes. Thanks for the input!

My brain is too frazzled to think about adding branching paths to my proc gen levels. A problem for the weekend.

On the other hand, I completely broke my project today because I moved a few files that had hardcoded paths and it took me ages to find the issue...

Could it be because I am a dev primarily and art is something I am learning now? Not sure how to quantify it but would be helpful to understand why. I can see the progress and yet if its not functional, it just doesn't feel rea.

Worked on the art today (just some background and props) and I feel I have not made any progress.

I switched to coding. Added a fully functional enemy health bar and impact damage numberst. I feel a bit better. Not sure why the art work does not feel like progress.
