Make films shorter if you want them shown in cinemas, says Picturehouse director Clare Binns says three-hour runtimes deter audiences as she is named Bafta recipient for outstanding British contribution to cinema

Nonsense. A film should be as long as it needs to be to tell the story being told. Simple.

Some of the biggest box office hits are 3hrs+. Avatar + Oppenheimer. Ok, kids films need tight runtimes but not all.

My TOP 10 movies from 2025.

(I have yet to see Marty Supreme or Bugonia so expect significant shifts upon viewing!)

Super cinemas, led by tech, such as IMAX + boutique cinemas, offering more intimate settings (Everyman et al) will be fine.

Everything in between will fall away.

The strangest thing: is the future of cinema โ€ฆ not new movies? Netflixโ€™s big-screen release of the Stranger Things finale is estimated to have made over $25m at the US box office, the latest example of event cinema proving popular

Cinema will never disappear. Formats will broaden - sport / music / event based - and auteurs have never had such studio support. Scale is reducing, no doubt, but there'll always be a demand.

Plus, Netflix will adapt, especially post their acquisition of WB.

Just caught One Battle After Another. Sensational. A movie that doesnโ€™t relent throughout. Award-winning turns from Leo + Penn. Outrageous soundtrack. Action, comedy, emotion, sharp social commentary of where we heading.

PTA auteurโ€™ing without limits.

Film of the year without doubt.

Thatโ€™s some win for the #Arsenal.

Deserved but always a very difficult place to find goals. Especially after conceding.

Substitutes adding the finishing touches. Merino back at SJP, and the ร˜ showed his class.

Gabriel is a monster in the BIGGEST of games.

MASSIVE for the belief. This race is on.

Itโ€™s evidently a passion piece from PTA. One heโ€™s generous enough to share with us all. Packed with charm, intrigue, comedy and wonder. The elements we all hope to hold on to as we navigate adulthood.

The young Hoffman and his endlessly optimistic approach and the slightly older, more jaded companion (Alana Haim) who has such a typical grumbling Woody Allen-esque approach to everything.

A film that lies firmly on the fringes of Hollywood and all its excess, San Fernando is quite the draw.

It was a wildly unconventional yet utterly relatable rom-com thatโ€™s littered with superb yet immensely odd storytelling as the two leads (absolutely supreme debuts from both) tumble from encounter to encounter with immensely opposing views.

#2 Licorice Pizza. Dir: Paul Thomas Anderson

Nothing like the grandiose worlds of intrigue that PTA typically builds, incredibly pared back but still entirely entrancing and alluring.

A fever pitch of a film that shakes and grinds through 1950s Latin America in a dreamlike state, demanding your attention throughout.

And just how difficult these things were, both individually and collectively in the 50s. Supreme storytelling.

Great star turns from Jason Schwartzmann and Lesley Manville also.

To deliver this and Challenges back to back is an astonishing feat. Iโ€™m very excited for After the Hunt regardless of mixed reviews.

So yeah, if you watch, go into open-minded and let it all wash over you. An incredible tale of the journey of homesexuality, loneliness, and love and lust.

Daniel Craig should have been nommed for an Oscar. He was spectacular. So magnificently believable and troubled and reflective of all he was trying to portray. A career best, without doubt.

Watched 2 fabulous films over the weekend! ๐Ÿฟ๐ŸŽฌ๐ŸŽฅ

#1 - Queer. Dir: Guadagnino.

Queer is essential viewing. Although a little muddled in parts, a little indulgent too from Guadagnino. But certainly profound and emotional and such a vivid, fantastical creation. His use of colour is sensational.

01.09.2025 11:46 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

- Such as Max Dowman. He's ready to play NOW, evidently. How exciting!

- 3 games in inc. 2 of our toughest away fixtures. 6 points from 9 despite numerous injuries and players settling. No reason to panic. Onto Forest at Home.

We are THE #Arsenal ๐Ÿซก

- Adding Eze and Madueke, not to mention a goal machine in Gyokeres, evidently proves Arteta's ambition to create more attacking variations and intensity. Try harder, media.

- Noni Madueke is ready to compete. Brave, bold and bright. We have serious options now...

01.09.2025 11:34 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

- Playing tight was EXACTLY how we should approach such a game. TBF, Liverpool approached almost identically.

- Zubimendi is the real MVP of this window. Immediately settling, the boy looks world class already. Him + Rice = best midfield in EPL.

- We have a HUGE talent in Mosquera.

Some musings on yesterday's game after my thoughts have settled:

- Everybody needs a story! Not entirely sure our approach warrants such criticism. We were missing our #10, our star attacker, Havertz and then also Big Bill. It was the 3rd game of the season, away from home, at the Champions.

Tottenham finally hire a suitable manager and they immediately make appropriate moves in the window. Was it really so hard to get here?

Add a few more along these lines, theyโ€™ll become a real threat, and that, my friends, is annoying!

Perhaps the only strategy available to attempt avoiding the drop. After the recent yo-yo of most promoted teams, you have to admire the bravery.

The breathtaking financial power of the top teams in full flow.
