would really love to read anything right now about the inverse relationship between taking things capital S seriously and actually being able to engage with them deeply. there certainly seems to be one, from language learning to political action.

even now when I listen to "citizen", I think ... james mercer and danger mouse have been reading ghassan hage. they have held a reading group and they yearn as I do for an alter-politics and the end of the nation state. this cannot possibly be true but I feel it so deeply.

botany class is just me, two boys (one of whom would be perfectly cast as ariel schrag's adam) and a girl all saying "bisexual?" "yeah ... bisexual!" over and over again while we lean over each other to stare at beautiful flowers through our microscopes and try to count their ovaries.

I think the anti-porn drive is mostly cultural, but the economics of it are maybe something like: a) lobbyists are grifters collecting their fee (even if they're absorbed in method acting); b) the legislation never succeeds at eliminating porn, only narrowing its distribution—good for monopolists.
