As a Non-Executive Director with MPA, I am strongly committed to applying my experience, expertise and networks in support of this organisation’s vital work. The care and support MPA provides to people living with melanoma is impressive to say the least and I encourage all to visit the website.

Many Australian families are affected by different skin cancers, including melanoma - my family is too. A renowned Australian research leader I was to do my PhD with, Professor Greg Johnson, was also lost to this disease - leaving an indelible memory of the deadly impact of this cancer.

It is an honour to join the Melanoma Patients Australia (MPA) Board. Growing up in North Qld, I remember the national “slip, slop, slap” campaign and the strong message it sent about the importance of protecting our skin.

Be kind, lead with empathy and be sure to check-in. This is not only important with direct reports, but also peers and yes, even the boss.

To my friends and colleagues in the US, I am so sorry this is happening to you and the STEM sector. It will set research and innovation back years. Worst of all is the negative impact on America’s health and economy.
