Could be an incremental, politically feasible, way of moving towards a merger?

How (And When) To Topple A Leader - With Jeremy Hunt Podcast Episode Β· How To Win An Election Β· 18/09/2025 Β· 41m

In which, remarkably, while talking about the fiscal bind, and even after Jeremy Hunt goes on about acting in the interests of the country, no one brings up the TWO NI cuts carried out largely if not solely for narrow party political ends. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/h...

Stop talking about wealth taxes β€” make these reforms instead Any sane discussion of changes that both right and left could agree on is being crowded out by tax populism

It's shocking how much consensus there is amongst tax policy wonks and economists of Left and Right on the tax reforms the UK needs to boost growth & make the tax system fairer

More shocking: they're reforms that are never mentioned by any politicians

Fiscal options: untangling VAT VAT reform could stabilise public finances and simplify our tax system – making it both manageable and beneficial

Well I ignored the letter because I have already accrued enough years for full state pension, DWP should have been able to check that?

Yes, but it would be odd to tax pensioners differently depending on whether they are receiving same amount as state retirement pension (no other income) or as pension credit.

@officialedballs.bsky.social and George Osborne suggested this on their Political Currency podcast, even said recovering child benefit through the tax system had been a success, oh no it hasn’t been!

Economy explainers: what is MTD? ICAEW's Tax Faculty sets out the key things taxpayers and agents need to know about Making Tax Digital (MTD) for income tax, including the timeline for the phased introduction of MTD for income tax.

The gov.uk service won’t be an option for many, being phased in from April 2026. www.icaew.com/insights/tax...

Find out if you can get an exemption from Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Check if you can apply for an exemption from Making Tax Digital for Income Tax in the future.

The guidance is here www.gov.uk/guidance/app.... Applications are expected to open later this year. I’d check again in September.

If you have never claimed child benefit (CB) for her then a NINO won’t have been issued. Claiming and electing not to receive CB is ok. A failure to match may mean there is no record. NINOs, if issued, are sent to the CB address I think.

🧡 NEW: Is Britain really a high tax country?

Our collective tax bill is at its highest share of GDP since the 1940s

But actually, the tax and NI paid by the average worker are at their lowest in decades.

What’s going on?

And why should we feel (slightly) sorry for Dettori?

This is causing so much confusion. As @paullewismoney.bsky.social says it is a change to the requirement to file a tax return, the trading allowance (amount you can earn tax free) remains at Β£1k. The timing depends on when HMRC can built a reporting service into its app/personal tax account.

Tax on savings interest You do not pay tax on your savings interest if you're on a low income.

#Savers!! Updated guidance from HMRC today.

If you have tax on #interest for 2023/24 tax year (and are not in self-assessment) - it could take until 31 March 2025 for #HMRC to get a tax computation out to you

Let’s talk about Direct File.

It’s a free, easy way for people to file their taxes directly online with IRS.

You keep your tax refund β€” rather than paying $150 to a sleazy tax prep company.

It’s more efficient!

But these Republicans want you to keep wasting money on TurboTax.

Yes, but also need to invest in improving digital services and customer service to make it easier for the willing to get things right. Large portion of tax gap is small errors made by large number of taxpayers.
