There’s a lot of horror comedies but nothing that would terrify you like a Japanese or Korean horror film.

Her insight that Hindi commercial films are constantly reminding you of the illusion explains why horror is the one genre of Indian film that’s never worked for me. Never been scared watching one.

A little recency bias but Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani (Rocky and Rani’s Love Story) is the best rom com in at least a decade.

This is a better version of my take. But I do think of Airplane! as more broadly a spoof of the 70s disaster film. I haven’t seen Zero Hour but, as a child, I was aware of Airport 1975.

The problem with Scary Movie is that they were spoofing specific films and scenes. Airplane and Police Squad were spoofing genres and their conventions.

Bomani Jones had an interesting discussion about stan culture in sports and some of his thoughts rang true for film as well.

Wish someone would make the international cut of Hard Target available. (And give us the full length Red Cliffs while they’re at it.)

Was just reading from Dwan’s book with Peter Bogdanovich. To find a passage that influenced John Sayles writing style. Want to go back and read the whole book at some point.

He’s correct.

All I do now is check the dew point.

That whole shot where it tracks with Pesci has he drags over the table clothes and then it pushes in as the roll the body on to them and into a close up of Pesci delivering that line is just masterful. (Not to mention the Donovan song.)

When does Offseason O appear?

Never understood why this hasn’t been remade as a movie or streaming show. Interesting premise with room to be reimagined.

Is there a place that has per 36 summer league stats?

Glad he’s getting an opportunity. Think he can play. A high usage college guy that can scale down as a role player.

Movies like 2001 and Jurassic Park are marvels for how well the visual effects still hold up.

There’s a Hindi phrase (usually said by dads) for when someone leaves the lights on that translates to “Is it Diwali again?” A French version is “We’re not in Versailles!” But my favourite version, by far, is the Serbian “Was your grandpa Nikola Tesla?”
