There’s a lot of horror comedies but nothing that would terrify you like a Japanese or Korean horror film.

This is a better version of my take. But I do think of Airplane! as more broadly a spoof of the 70s disaster film. I haven’t seen Zero Hour but, as a child, I was aware of Airport 1975.

The problem with Scary Movie is that they were spoofing specific films and scenes. Airplane and Police Squad were spoofing genres and their conventions.

That whole shot where it tracks with Pesci has he drags over the table clothes and then it pushes in as the roll the body on to them and into a close up of Pesci delivering that line is just masterful. (Not to mention the Donovan song.)
