Hawthorne on real estate and thus American colonization:

"What we call real estate the solid ground to build a house on-is the broad foundation on which nearly all the guilt of this world rests... He lays his own dead corpse beneath the underpinning"

watched McCabe and Mrs. Miller and Wages of Fear back-to-back, accidentally a double feature on life in the hinterlands of the American extractive empire and the violent social forms that arise to govern these outposts

astounding, endlessly generative manifold map of Time (psychological, historical, social), journeyed by a fractal mechanism that constantly displaces the reader within the novel's pyschogeography at the level of the sentences, which strain, beautifully, toward a universal gestalt

i think the new dem strategy should be elitism but for real, I don't believe true elitism has been tried they should be out here saying only people who speak 5 languages can vote. stuff like that.

Certain movements in the music corresponded to waves and pulses across the surface of the orchestra. Sliding my eyeglasses to the edge of my nose, looking out above the lenses, further abstracted the players into black-suited orbs, interrupted, like gems inset into a velvety surface, by gleaming reflections of polished wood and burnished metal, and by dramatic, chalky white bowslashes writing yet another language in the air. At times, the music seemed to slide from one end of the orchestra to another, propagating with a susurrating ripple, as if the musicians were scales on the back of a snake sinuously slithering along the garden floor.

it's so "funny" that the democrats completed their transition to a party of the college educated in the same moment they stepped aside while the right launched a full-scale attack on higher ed

there was that big hagiographic/oral history type thing about google reader on the verge last week which had some interesting bits about how reader came to be, why google killed it etc but the entire article was framed around how Reader was the only RSS client...
