preaching to the choir. classical mechanics should be a high credit hour course showing the motivations and explanations

it's just great for early undergrads who are lost in the exercises or struggling with "what does all this actually do?"

highly recommend In Praise of Simple Physics by Paul J. Nahin. it really conveys how parsimonious models can provide elegant explanations. but "simple" does occasionally involve some calc and kinda assumes the reader has some solid phys/math intuition

just read the s1 summary (maybe i didn't watch that one). yeah, that is a plot point. i stand corrected

that makes sense at a shitty college bar or kegger where the only activity is drinking. i feel like that wasn't a big part of the social options where i was. lots of music/bands, social activity clubs, yard games, etc. it was a *lot* of drinking but easy enough to pass on that and still participate

i went to a party school in a party city and no one gave a flying fuck if you turned down a drink. no one was ganged up on or threatened with social exile if they didn't get drunk. the only times it got weird was if someone tried the "not only do i not want booze, you shouldn't either" stuff

just ask millennials who got mortgages in 2016. they're locked in with ~3% rates on assets they can't effectively use

the strangest thing i see from this is how NIMBYs and conservatives ignore how 30-yr mortgages were birthed from "liberal" federal policy and bank regulation started in (iirc) the late 1930s, not some connection to 1776-era times

the only issue with extra time in my TA days was grading for a prof who wrote 20 question exams where answering 5 correct was an A, 4 for a B, and so on. A+ students were expected to leave 12-15 questions blank, so extra time made this a headache
