Enjoying Glitter & Gold on Netflix. Fascinating insight into the work behind the Ice dance medallists. Good to see Tara Lipinski again too. I still remember her joyful Sense and Sensibility programme.

Sigh! Had to cancel hospital appt because it clashed with another hospital appt. Cancelled in app. Hospital phoned back quickly and rescheduled. Received a letter today confirming the appt at the original cancelled time and asked to phone if not convenient...There's no phone number :-(

It did seem as though nerves really got to them. I guess the ones who ended up getting medals were so unlikely to get them from the position they were in that they had nothing to lose, and so had the freedom to skate at their best. Felt especially sorry for the last 2 skaters, who were devastated

It was strange wasn't it. Once one started they all seemed to be going over. Just saw the Gold Medallist's programme and it was beautiful as was the Japanese (2nd place?) Firebird routine. So pleased for him.

What on earth was going on in the Men's Long Programme? That ice is slippery stuff. Congratulations to Gold medallist Mikhail Shaidorov who ended up where he never expected to be. BBC missed showing his skate because he was never expected to be in the top 3. Poor lad looks in shock.

Love that one of the British female skeleton sledders has a sled that appears to be named after my Dad. He would have loved it. Will be shouting for Fred the Sled tomorrow.

That's wonderful. 3/4 of my family are S Wales / Welsh Borders and were probably there before the Romans! The other quarter are Huguenot French / German / Dutch and Kent. I love the story of the lives they led.

Mine would be:
The National Health Service
Television
Washing machines
Shostakovich's 8th string quartet
Being able to own and drive a car
Indoor toilets

Should also mention Social security. One set of great-grandparents died in the workhouse :-(

Intrigued by the monks. Am picturing religious bodies blocking roads, but suspect that is not what you mean. Anyway, traffic sounds horrendous

Part of mine arrived after being chased out of France (Huguenot) in the 18th century. The family they married into were probably on the side of the Saxons when your relatives arrived. They may have met. Gulp!
