Summer World Tour July 9th to 15th

Text is over a globe with an orange banner on top of it, some daisies, and several purple passport stamps.
Had a great weekend traveling the interdimensional worlds with the Global Write-In Crawl (globalwriteincrawl.wordpress.com)! It was exhausting but extremely rewarding. Next up is a Summer World Tour with @thecraftycollectiv.bsky.social, and @supremedoom56.bsky.social has just kicked us off!

A knitted shawl with a diamond motif laying on a wood table. There's a triangle of dark green on the left side, and the colors fade into pink, purple, yellow, blue, lilac, and finally, purple with a navy blue stripe breaking up the dark purple near the end.

After ten and a half months of work on and off, I've finished knitting my first shawl!

The Restoration Rebinding of Speculum Naturale
Thank you!
Yeah, definitely not talking about insulation boards π
K-118 is a binding structure named after the designation for the anonymous bindery from which we've got the existing late 15th century volumes.
Here's a link to the original article on them:

An open book with the photo taken angled from the bottom of the book showing the book's pages laying flat with the spine's endband arching up like a bell curve.
An endband sewn on a book spine with blue and teal threads.
A handbound book from the front. The cover has a black spine and is primarily navy blue with a light blue section on top and orange splashes at the bottom.
A book opened so that its covers are fully touching each other without cracking the spine.
I may have spent basically all of my crafting time in February putting what I've learned about bookbinding into practice. I'm really excited to use this journal for keeping track of DM stuff for a D&D campaign soon. (Yes, a K-118 is supposed to bend this way!)

I started this one about a year ago, also on 28ct evenweave, and it's been in time-out since I had to rip ~80 stitches out. I've done maybe 1,000 stitches out of the 122,694.
Good on you for finishing this incredible undertaking, @piescrossstitch.bsky.social! It's gorgeous, and I love the frame!

The corner of a small book case with a tiny text block in it is held between a thumb and index finger. The book is only the height of a thumb, and a little red endband peeks out from the Tex block near the spine. Some of the paper on the case is curving away from the board.
I've been pretty exhausted the past few weeks, but I started a tiny book bind this weekend. Still a work in progress, but it's easily the happiest I've felt working on something in years. It's FAR from perfect, but the act of putting something together at such a small scale has been so gratifying.

A shawl on knitting needles. A solid variegated green triangle like a mountain is bordered by a halo of green and pink bars and then another green v. Then a pattern of fern-like leaves fans out for five repeats, its colors changing from light green to pale pink to purple.
I've spent a couple of hours cuddling with the cats, and it's time to get back to knitting the Frosty Fern Shawl. Almost 100 rows are complete, and I'm still lacking words for how gorgeous these colors are from @sewroyal.bsky.social's July 2024 advent!

A curving vine with leaves is stitched on white aida fabric with black and embroidery floss.
I'm on an adventure to learn blackwork embroidery with a few stitch alongs this year. I think it's going pretty well!

I've been really enjoying listening to In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune. Over half of the characters are robots, and they're particularly funny when voiced aloud for some reason.

There are 12 knitted rows of a light grey yarn still on a knitting needle. The rows alternate in groups of 4 to make a basketweave-like look and texture.
We've done 12 rows of our first ever MKAL tonight! Excited to see the blanket come together one square at a time throughout the year and to learn some new knitting techniques π

A in-progress knit shawl still on circular knitting needles. It fans out from a triangle of variegated green into a v stripe of pink, green, and white columns. Then there's a wavy v stripe of the variegated green again, and the outside has a large section of diamonds made from the pink, green, and white colorway.
I'm finally making some real headway on this Frosty Fern Shawl after knitting 26 rows in early August and not touching it again until a week ago. I just unwrapped the third color from @sewroyal.bsky.social's July advent, and I'm loving all of the colors so far!

Two blue socks still being worked toe-up on a circular knitting needle. The feet are done, and each has three back and forth mock-cabling squiggles going up them.
The Serpentine Socks have officially reached the gusset stage! I'm loving working this pattern, even if two skeins from the same dye lot look markedly different.

A clear plastic bauble ornament with variegated green thread knotted around it in a web-like pattern. Extra strings of thread hang from the bottom center of the bauble.
I finished a macrame bauble ornament tonight. There are definitely places where I could improve, but I think it turned out pretty well for my first one!

I did! It was a fun amigurumi to make, though the legs were a bit frustrating because they're so small. I'm also working on one that's turquoise and yellow as an homage to blue crabs.

For real! Most of the fanfic binders I know in the US use this for mailing a copy to the author. Less money on shipping means more money for bookbinding supplies!

A scarf being woven in a twill pattern on a four-shaft floor weaving loom. A strip of navy blue is across the front beam, while the rest of the weaving is a light pink/aquamarine that has color pooled into a pink zig zag stripe.
Can't wait for tourist season to end so I can get back to the loom! I just need to decide on a new project since this piece got taken off in May.

A finished crochet mandala blanket with rounds of yellow, blue, orange, white, gold, pink, turquoise, and brown hanging over a hammock chair.
The first 17 rounds of a crochet mandala blanket with rounds of yellow, blue, orange, white, gold, pink, and turquoise. It's on a table in a pub with a beer in a glass with a compass logo on it sitting beside it.
The first 12 rounds of a crochet mandala blanket with rounds of yellow, blue, orange, white, gold, pink, and turquoise. It's on a picnic table, and the last white round makes the project look a bit flower-like.
I started crocheting this blanket in December of 2023 and finished it in June of 2024. It's made entirely of spare stash yarn and ended up being a bit over a yard across. It's very comfy, and it's kitty-approved!

A simple print with blue ink on white paper depicting a mountain range reflected in a lake. Some stray ink areas look a bit like rain falling on the mountains.

There are two crochet yellow rubber ducks sitting on the corner of a bathtub. Both have orange beaks. The duck on the right has a red and gold striped scarf and black hair, as well as a small gold lightning bolt scar above its beak's left side. The duck on the left has a white, green, and red variegated scarf and white and yellow hair. It has the end of the other duck's scarf in its mouth.
These are a couple of rubber duck amigurumis I crocheted a couple of winter holiday seasons ago. I can't recall where the rubber duck patterns came from, but the accessories were free-handed!

I went for an impromptu hike on Tuesday night! Though I quickly lost the trail and spent the rest of the hike searching for a way back to it, I had a great time enjoying nature.
Here are some of the photos I took before I fell and scraped up my leg. Then it was really time to find the trail again.
